THE catalogue for the third and final Tattersalls Ireland store sale of the year, the July store sale, is now available to view online. The sale will take place on July 24th and 25th, with 534 lots offered in total.

The sale is relatively new, having launched in 2021, and merged with the existing August NH sale the following year. Last year’s sale was held in a two-part format, with part one returning an average price of €13,595, median of 11,000gns, and clearance rate of 72%.

Part two proved more challenging for vendors, with only 56% of the 224 offered finding buyers, for an average price of €6,020. Two geldings held the 2023 top spot at €55,000gns apiece, but it is for far lower prices that the sale’s value has been advertised.

Bargain buys

Colm McBratney’s Templeburn Stables paid €7,500 for Captain Cody (pictured right) at the July Store Sale in 2021, and it can be safely assumed that connections received far more than that after finishing fourth in a four-year-old maiden. The bay went on to win a Grade 2 novice hurdle at Fairyhouse for Willie Mullins.

August NH sale graduates are headlined by Emmet Mullins’ Aintree Grand National hero Noble Yeats, who was sourced by Donal Hassett for just €6,500.

Irish Grand National victor Lord Lariat was bought by co-owner Patrick John Casey for a bargain €5,500, while Thorne Farm paid €9,000 for dual Grade 1 winner Noah And The Ark and Chris O’Donovan parted with €10,000 for Grade 2-winning novice hurdler Shanagh Bob.

Leading sires are well-represented in the 2024 edition, with the progeny of Blue Bresil, Jukebox Jury, Maxios, Walk In The Park and Yeats among those catalogued. The sale has been supported by many prominent consignors, including Ballincurrig House Stud, Castletown Quarry Stud, Galbertstown Stables, Glen Stables, Peter Nolan Bloodstock and Rathbarry Stud, to name just a few.

Blacktype mares

The progeny of blacktype mares are among those catalogued, as well as siblings of graded performers. All horses catalogued for the Tattersalls Ireland July store sale are eligible for the €100,000 George Mernagh Memorial Sales Bumper 2025. The 2024 edition saw newcomer Kopek Des Bordes bolt up by 13 lengths, having been bought by Willie Mullins and Harold Kirk from Sluggara Farm for €130,000.
