REILEY McDonald from Eaton Bloodstock made a number of purchases, and at 800,000gns he secured the Galileo mare Easter. “She is for Athens Woods Farm in Kentucky,” said McDonald. “We are putting together a bunch of US and European-bred mares. The yearlings will be sold.”
McDonald added: “She [Easter] is by Galileo and I want to get as many mares by Galileo as I can!” Winner of the Listed Hurry Harriet Stakes at Gowran Park, Easter was sold by Norelands Stud and is expecting her fourth foal in March by Kingman.
Architecture, the Group 1 Oaks and Irish Oaks runner-up and daughter of Zoffany, was sold by New England Stud and bought by Katsumi Yoshida for Northern Farms at 600,000gns. “She was a very good racehorse and is in foal to Lope De Vega, which was very attractive for us,” said Shunsuke Yoshida.
The same purchasers later acquired Group 3 French winner and Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf third Cavale Doree, a daughter of Sunday Break, for 650,000gns. She is carrying her first foal by War Front.
Terre, a full-sister to dual Arc heroine Treve, sold for 680,000gns and was bought by Charlie Vigors of Hillwood Stud. “She is for an existing client,” said Vigors. “He is keen to upgrade his broodmares and you can’t get much better than a winning mare who is a full-sister to one of the best racemares there has been.”
Terre was sold in foal to Siyouni and Vigors added: “We don’t know whether it is a colt or a filly, but we don’t mind.” Another daughter of Motivator to sell well was the Spanish-foaled and three-time winner Azafata. In foal to Zoffany, she is carrying a full-brother to Group 2 winner Fleeting, placed in the Group 1 Irish Oaks (second) and Group 1 Oaks at Epsom (third) this year. Azafata was bought by Hugo Lascelles on behalf of Peter Brandt of White Birch Farm for 625,000gns and sold from Castlepark Stud.
