GALIWAY (Galiway) is the latest sire with his first runners in 2019 to get off the mark as a stakes sire. His son Kenway, a €65,000 yearling at last year’s Arqana Sale in Deauville, won the Listed Prix des Jouvenceaux et des Jouvencelles at Vichy to add to a prior success and a number of placings. His sire stood this year at Haras de Colleville for €3,000 and has three sons for sale at Arqana later this month.
Galiway was a rare Andre Fabre-trained two-year-old runner in England but the maestro sent him to contest the Group 3 Horris Hill Stakes on his second start and he finished runner-up. He ended his six-start career at three with a listed race win at Maisons-Laffitte but was considered good enough to tackle the French 2000 Guineas (fifth to Karakontie) and French Derby.
Kenway is the first winner from the Kendargent (Kendor) mare Kendam and she was a good racemare too. She won the Group 3 Prix Eclipse at two and was placed at Group 1 level when third in the Prix de la Foret. Her full-brother Kenfreeze was a stakes-winning juvenile and they are the best offspring to date from the placed two-year-old Damdam Freeze (Indian Rocket). She was well bought last December by Howson and Houldsworth for €50,000 at Arqana carrying a colt by Goken (Kendargent), another Haras de Colleville stallion.
The best runners in recent times from this family have been Myboycharlie (Danetime), a Group 1 winning juvenile and Group/Grade 1 sire, and the Group 1 Australian winner Snowland (Snippets).
