LANWADES Stud’s Archipenko (by Kingmambo) is among the best-bred stallions around, being by the sire of King Kamehameha, Lemon Drop Kid and King’s Best and out of a mare who is closely related to the dynasty-maker Sadler’s Wells (by Northern Dancer).

First-crop daughter Madame Chiang gave him his first Group 1 winner, his first-crop son Kingston Mines is a Group 2 and Group 3 winner in South Africa, and his recent results include two listed scorers in the space of four days.

The Sir Mark Prescott-trained Time Warp notched up his fifth consecutive win on Monday, this time taking the Listed Prix de Pontarme by three lengths over a mile at Saint-Cloud.

That dual stakes winner was bred by Kirsten Rausing and so too was Algometer, the Archipenko colt who won the Listed EBF Stallions Cocked Hat Stakes over 11 furlongs at Goodwood eight days ago.

That grey is trained by David Simcock, he was a mile winner at Newbury on his second juvenile start, and he caught the eye last month when making Midterm fight for victory in the Group 3 Classic Trial over 10 furlongs at Sandown.

He is entered in the Group 1 Investec Derby, the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes and in the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby, and he is also among the ante-post favourites for the Group 1 St Leger at Doncaster in September.

Algometer is a half-brother to the dual listed scorer All At Sea (by Sea The Stars), to the stakes-winning stayer Alwilda (by Hernando) and to the multiple stakes-placed Albamara (by Galileo), and this talented quartet are out of Albanova (by Alzao), the champion older mare in Germany in 2004.

She won the Group 1 Rheinland-Pokal, the Group 1 Deutschlandpreis and the Group 1 Preis von Europa, she was runner-up in another edition of that latter contest, and Timeform rated her 119, 3lbs below her full-sister Alborada.

Also trained by Sir Mark Prescott, Alborada won six of her 10 starts, gaining her first pattern success in the Group 3 C L Weld Park Stakes at the Curragh as a juvenile then adding the Group 2 Pretty Polly Stakes, Group 2 Nassau Stakes, and two editions of the Group 1 Champion Stakes at Newmarket.

Alborada’s son Albion (by With Approval) was beaten by a head in the Group 2 Prix Greffulhe at Saint-Cloud, his lightly-raced half-sister Alvarita (by Selkirk) won a listed contest at that same venue, Albaraka (by Selkirk) earned her blacktype when third in the Listed Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton, and Algonquin (by Archipenko) was completing a four-timer when beating Devonshire in the Listed Vincent O’Brien Ruby Stakes over eight and a half furlongs at Killarney last August.

Alborada’s son Alado (by Danzig) also deserves a mention, even though he was unraced, as he is siring blacktype horses in South Africa, where he stands at Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud.

HALF SISTERS

Albanova and Alborada are half-sisters to listed scorer Alma Mater (by Sadler’s Wells), who is the dam of the Group 3-placed filly Alumna (by Mr Greeley), and they are out of Alouette (by Darshaan).

That grey was third in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes on her racecourse debut, won a 12 furlong listed contest at Galway 12 months later, and is one of four blacktype horses out of Alruccaba (by Crystal Palace).

Listed Curragh Cup scorer Arrikala (by Darshaan) was a close third to User Friendly in the Group 1 Irish Oaks, Group 3 Doncaster Cup winner Alleluia (by Caerleon) became the dam of the Group 1 Prix Royal-Oak heroine Allegretto (by Galileo), and the other one of note is Last Second (by Alzao).

She won the Group 2 Nassau Stakes and Group 2 Sun Chariot Stakes, she was runner-up in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes, and in addition to being the grandam of the classic-placed pair Midas Touch (by Galileo) and Michelangelo (by Galileo), she is, of course, the dam of the Group 1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains (French 2000 Guineas) winner Aussie Rules (by Danehill).

He also won the Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes and the Group 3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes, he began his stallion career at Coolmore, moved to Lanwades Stud in 2012, but sadly died recently at the age of 13.

Quelindo gave him a 19th individual stakes winner when scoring in a listed contest in Germany on Sunday, and the best of his progeny include his Group 1 Matron Stakes-winning daughter Fiesolana, Group 1 Preis der Diana (German Oaks) runner-up and dual pattern scorer Djumama, and Willie Cazals, a classic-placed multiple stakes winner in Italy who was only beaten half a length by Flintshire when runner-up in the Grade 1 Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tin in 2014.

There are various other blacktype horses in the family and those include the afore mentioned Group 2 scorer Kingston Mines (by Archipenko) whose dam, Alexandrine (by Nashwan), is a four-times winning half-sister to Last Second.
