HAWKBILL RELATED TO A CHAMPION SIRE

Godolphin's Hawkbill won the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse Stakes over 10 furlongs at Sandown last year and he added the Group 2 Princess of Wales's Arqana Racing Club Stakes over a quarter mile farther at Newmarket on Thursday.

The Charlie Appleby-trained four-year-old was bred by the Helen K Groves Revokable Trust, he is a son of the outstanding Ramsey Farm stallion Kitten's Joy (by El Prado) – which means that he represents a branch of the powerful Sadler's Wells (by Northern Dancer) sire line – and he is out of multiple blacktype earner Trensa (by Giant's Causeway).

The mare is a half-sister to triple Grade 3 winner Batique (by Storm Cat) and she is out of the Grade 1 Ballerina Handicap heroine Serape (by Fappiano).

Mochila (by In Reality), the Grade 1-placed prolific winner and third dam of Hawkbill, was a half-sister to Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Mile star Cozzene (by Caro), a former member of the Gainesway Farm stallion team and US champion sire in 1996.

His Group/Grade 1-winning offspring featured Alphabet Soup, Mizzen Mast, Star Of Cozzene, Tikkanen, and Group 1 Eclipse Stakes winner Environment Friend.

RISING STAR FOR DARK ANGEL

Yeomanstown Stud's leading sire Dark Angel (by Acclamation) is having another excellent season and his pattern winners include Battaash, the Charles Hills-trained gelding who won the Group 3 Coral Charge in great style at Sandown on Saturday.

Hamdan Al Maktoum's gelding was bred by Ballyphilip Stud, he is the first foal out of Anna Law (by Lawman) and he is a 200,000gns graduate of Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

The three-year-old's dam was unplaced but she is out of Portelet (by Night Shift) and so is a half-sister to a string of multiple winners, most notably Group 2 Champagne Stakes winner and Group 1 July Cup third Etlaala (by Selkirk).

GROUP 2 FOR IFFRAAJ

Dalham Hall Stud stallion Iffraaj (by Zafonic) is doing well again in 2017 and his daughter The Black Princess took the Group 2 bet365 Lancashire Oaks over 12 furlongs at Haydock on Saturday.

The John Gosden-trained four-year-old was bred by Petra Bloodstock Agency Ltd, she is a €170,000 graduate of the Arqana August Yearling Sale, and this was her second pattern success of the year.

She is a half-sister to dual middle-distance French winner Lucelle (by High Chaparral) and her dam, Larceny (by Cape Cross), is a half-sister to Group 1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks) heroine Latice (by Inchinor) and also to Lawman (by Invincible Spirit), the Group 1 Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby) winner and classic sire who stands at Ballylinch Stud.

Light The Lights (by Shirley Heights), the third dam of The Black Princess, won the Group 2 Prix de Pomone and finished third in the Group 1 Prix Vermeille, and fourth dam Lighted Glory (by Nijinsky) won the Group 3 Prix de Flore and took second in the Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary.

STARS COLT ADVERTISES ST LEGER POTENTIAL

Brian Meehan-trained three-year-old Raheen House (by Sea The Stars), who was fourth in last month's Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Ascot, advertised his Group 1 St Leger potential with victory in the Group 3 Bahrain Trophy Stakes over 13 furlongs at Newmarket on Thursday.

He was bred by Sunderland Holdings Inc, he is out of Jumooh (by Monsun), and his dam is a half-sister to Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes winner and Group 1 1000 Guineas third Maqaasid (by Green Desert).

His grandam, Eshaadeh (by Storm Cat), is a half-sister to classic star Ghanaati (by Giant's Causeway) and to Group 3 Cumberland Lodge Stakes winner Mawatheeq (by Danzig), and so this is a branch of the famous Highclere (by Queen's Hussar) family.

LANDMARK FOR DREAM AHEAD

Outstanding sprinter and former Ballylinch Stud stallion Dream Ahead (by Diktat) reached a career landmark on Saturday when his daughter Tizbutadream won the Listed Coral Distaff over a mile at Sandown.

The David Elsworth-trained chesnut is her sire's tenth individual stakes winner.

The three-year-old has now won five of her 11 starts, she was third in the Group 3 Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Epsom last month, and she was bred by John Tuthill of Owenstown Stud. She made £400,000 at the Goffs London Sale in June.

Tizbutadream is the third foal out of listed scorer Choose Me (by Choisir) and that makes her a half-sister to Amazour (by Azamour) and Persuasive (by Dark Angel), who have won nine races between them.

Persuasive, of course, is the pattern-winning grey whose only defeat in six starts in her second-place finish to Alice Springs in last year's Group 1 Matron Stakes at Leopardstown.

The fourth dam of Tizbutadream is the classic and Group 1 Champion Stakes heroine Cairn Rouge (by Pitcairn) and so this is a branch of the prolific blacktype family of US Grade 1 star Ventura (by Chester House), among many others of note.

Dream Ahead is in his first year at Haras de Grandcamp in France.

GIBRALTAR FILLY BOOSTS VALUE

Coolmore Stud's classic sire and prolific Group 1 winner Rock Of Gibraltar (by Danehill) is one of those notable stallions who have passed the 100 mark for individual stakes winners and number 119 struck at Pontefract on Tuesday.

Lincoln Rocks, a four-year-old trained by David O'Meara, took her record to six wins from 18 starts with victory in the Listed Weatherbys General Stud Book Online Pipalong Stakes over a mile, her first blacktype success.

She was bred by James Ortega Bloodstock, who is also responsible for Thursday's £100,000 bet365 Handicap scorer Ekhtiyaar (by Bated Breath), a half-brother to dual pattern-winning sprinter New Providence (by Bahamian Bounty).

Lincoln Rocks, on the other hand, is the first foal out of Redskin Dancer (by Namid), and her dam is a winning full-sister to Group 3 Minstrel Stakes and Group 3 Brownstown Stakes heroine Redstone Dancer.

Their half-sister Red Liason (by Selkirk) won the Listed Surrey Stakes over seven furlongs at Epsom and was runner-up in both the Group 2 Goldene Peitsche and Group 3 Grosser Preis von Berlin, the latter a short-head defeat by Toylsome.

This is a branch of the family of multiple Group 1 star and influential stallion Rainbow Quest (by Blushing Groom).

Sofia's Rock is another notable performer for Rock Of Gibraltar this week, the Mark Johnston-trained colt having finished a one and a half-length third in the Group 3 Bahrain Trophy Stakes at Newmarket on Thursday.

GROUP 2 FOR LONHRO COLT

Third in last month's Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Ascot, the Mark Johnston-trained Cardsharp won the Group 2 Arqana July Stakes over a furlong farther at Newmarket on Thursday.

The Godolphin-bred juvenile is a son of outstanding Australian runner and successful sire Lonhro (by Octagonal), who shuttled to Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for three seasons.

He is the best of several winners out of Pure Illusion (by Danehill), who is a winning daughter of Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes scorer Saintly Speech (by Southern Halo).

Eloquent Minister (by Deputy Minister), the third dam of Cardsharp, won a listed sprint at Tipperary and is also the dam of Group 3 Prix du Calvados scorer and blacktype producer Woodland Melody (by Woodman).

GROUP 2 FOR CHURCHILL'S SISTER

The Aidan O'Brien-trained two-year-old Clemmie added Friday's Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes (sponsored bet365) at Newmarket to her recent Group 3 Grangecon Stud Stakes win at the Curragh. The daughter of Galileo (by Sadler's Wells) was bred by Liberty Bloodstock, she is out of Group 2-placed stakes winner Meow (by Storm Cat), and that makes her a full-sister to juvenile star and dual classic hero Churchill.

Meow is out of Airwave (by Air Express), who won the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes at two and later added Group 2 Ridgewood Pearl Stakes success over a mile at the Curragh.

Clemmie broke the juvenile course record for six furlongs on the July Course.

OASIS FILLY SPRINGS SURPRISE

Pattern-placed three-year-old Mystic Dawn sprang a 20/1 surprise at York on Friday afternoon when pipping Queen Kindly in the Group 3 Unibet Summer Stakes over six furlongs. Al Asayl Bloodstock Ltd's homebred is trained by David Simcock and she is a daughter of Banstead Manor Stud's excellent stallion Oasis Dream (by Green Desert).

She is out of Frivoity (by Pivotal) who is a half-sister to Group 2 winner and successful sire Byron (by Green Desert) and out of Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Gay Gallanta (by Woodman).
