MISTY FOR ME'S PERFECT START

Four-time Group 1 star Misty For Me (by Galileo) has made an outstanding start to her broodmare career as her first three foals are Cover Song (by Fastnet Rock), Roly Poly (by War Front) and U S Navy Flag (by War Front).

The first one is a Grade 3 winner in the USA, the second is the classic-placed Ballydoyle filly who has won both the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes and Group 1 Prix Rothschild this year, and the third is the colt who ran away with the Group 3 Plusvital Round Tower Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.

This six-length score was the Aidan O'Brien-trained juvenile's second win from eight starts and it came just a fortnight after he finished fourth to his stable companion Sioux Nation in the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the same venue.

Next year's two-year-old is a full-sister to this Irish-based pair and they are all bred by the Misty For Me Syndicate.

Misty For Me's siblings include the classic-placed Group 1 winner Ballydoyle (by Galileo) and pattern-placed stakes winner Twirl (by Galileo), and she is out of Butterfly Cove (by Storm Cat), a half-sister to unbeaten juvenile Group 1 star and successful sire Fasliyev (by Nureyev).

ANOTHER SMART TAMAYUZ

Derrinstown Stud stallion Tamayuz (by Nayef), sire of this year's Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (French 1000 Guineas) heroine Precieuse, added another pattern winner to his tally when Mustashry took the Group 3 Betfred Mobile Strensall Stakes at York on Saturday.

This nine-furlong contest gave Hamdan Al Maktoum's homebred a first blacktype success and it took the colt's overall record to four wins from 10 starts.

He is trained by Sir Michael Stoute, he is a half-brother to the pattern-placed six-figure earner Munaaser (by New Approach), and he is the fourth foal out of Safwa (by Green Desert).

That mile winner is out of Nasanice (by Nashwan), which makes her a half-sister to the prolific Maraahel (by Alzao), another former Stoute-trained ace whose seven pattern wins included two editions of the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes and whose 14 placings featured a short-head defeat by Notnowcato in the Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes.

Tamayuz's roll of honour also includes the Group 1 sprint star G Force, Group 1-placed dual Group 2 heroine Blond Me, and Group 2 scorer and blacktype sire Sir Prancealot.

He was a Group 1 winning miler and he comes from the famous stallion-producing family of Galileo (by Sadler's Wells), Sea The Stars (by Cape Cross), King's Best (by Kingmambo) and Adlerflug (by In The Wings).

JUVENILE GROUP WINNER FOR CHAMPS ELYSEES

Multiple Group/Grade 1 star Champs Elysees (by Danehill), a full-brother to leading sire Dansili, spent his first seven years as a stallion at Banstead Manor Stud but then switched to Castle Hyde Stud where he has completed a first season.

Although now attracting attention from National Hunt breeders, in addition to those with an eye on the flat, he added to his blacktype tally on Saturday when Billesdon Brook won the Group 3 Grosvenor Sport Prestige Stakes over seven furlongs at Goodwood.

The Richard Hannon-trained two-year-old, who was winning for the third time in seven starts, narrowly missed out on another blacktype success in late July when beaten by a nose and a neck in the Listed Star Stakes over the same trip at Sandown, a race that went to subsequent pattern scorer Tajaanus.

Billesdon Brook was bred by the Stowell Hill Partners and she is both the second foal and second multiple winner out of Coplow (by Manduro). The mare's yearling is catalogued as Lot 1136 in Book 2 of next month's Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

Coplow was placed a few times, she is out of Anna Oleanda (by Old Vic), and that own-sister to pattern scorer Anno Luce (dam of the brilliant hurdler Annie Power, by Shirocco) has been a notably successful broodmare.

Anna Oleanda's eight winners feature the Group 3 Prix d'Aumale scorer and Group 2 Oaks d'Italia runner-up Middle Club (by Fantastic Light), the tragically ill-fated Group 3 Horris Hill Stakes winner Piping Rock (by Dubawi), and two blacktype-placed daughters.

The third dam of Billesdon Brook is the German champion and classic star Anna Paola (by Prince Ippi) and her many notable descendants also include the Group/Grade 1 winners Ave (by Danehill Dancer), Anna Monda (by Monsun), Helmet (by Exceed And Excel), and Epaulette (by Commands).

ACCLAMATION DOUBLE

Rathbarry Stud stallion Acclamation (by Royal Applause) notched up a blacktype double recently, with the first leg provided by Attendu in the Group 3 Prix Quincey Barriere over a mile at Deauville on Sunday.

The Wertheimer brothers' homebred is trained by Carlos Laffon-Parias, this was his third pattern race success, and he is one of four blacktype horses for his dam, Gwenseb (by Green Tune).

The eldest is pattern-placed mile stakes winner Foreign Tune (by Invincible Spirit) and the youngest is Spotify (by Redoute's Choice) who was third to Brametot in the Group 3 Prix de Fontainebleau in April, fourth (no blacktype) behind that same star in the Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains (French 2000 Guineas) a month later and then a neck runner-up to Last Kingdom in the Group 3 Prix Daphnis over a furlong farther at Maisons-Laffitte in June.

The most notable of the siblings, however, is Impassable (by Invincible Spirit), who is a year older than Attendu and won both the Group 2 Prix de Sandringham and Group 2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein in 2015.

Their dam won the Group 3 Prix du Bois over five furlongs plus a listed contest over a mile, and her string of pattern-race placings included a neck second in the Group 2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte.

Acclamation's double was completed when Enjazaat came home a two-length winner of the Listed Longines Irish Champions Weekend EBF Ripon Champion Two Yrs Old Trophy, 2017 Stakes over six furlongs on Monday afternoon.

The Owen Burrows-trained colt has won two of his four starts, he was bred by Chris Mills and made 115,000gns in Newmarket as a foal.

He is the first foal out of six-furlong winner Miliika (by Green Desert) and his grandam is the Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes heroine Miss Anabaa (by Anabaa) who is closely related to Group 1 star Owington (by Green Desert).

MORE JOY FOR KITTEN'S

Ramsey Farm stallion Kitten's Joy (by El Prado) is well-established as a major US sire but his European profile has been strengthened in the past couple of year with Group 1 victory for Hawkbill and runaway Irish blacktype success for the former US star and now young Lanwades Stud team member Bobby's Kitten just two highlights.

On Sunday, his daughter Liquid Amber was an impressive five-length winner of the Group 3 Flame of Tara Irish EBF Stakes over a mile at the Curragh, and this Willie McCreery-trained juvenile looks like a potential classic candidate for 2018.

This win, which came the afternoon after Sadler's Joy (by Kitten's Joy) won the Grade 1 Sword Dancer Stakes over 12 furlongs at Saratoga, was made more noteworthy by the prior inexperience of the Niarchos family's homebred.

The chesnut made her racecourse debut just eight days before, chasing home Punked over the same course and distance.

She is the second foal and second winner out of Pachattack (by Pulpit) who was a pattern-placed dual listed race winner in England before crossing the Atlantic to become a multiple Grade 1-placed dual Grade 3 heroine.

El Laoob (by Red Ransom), the grandam of Liquid Amber, was runner-up in a 12-furlong listed contest at Newbury and is also responsible for the dual US stakes winner La Mina (by Mineshaft).

The next dam is Ajfan (by Woodman), the filly who chased home the tragically ill-fated Ivanka in the Group 1 Fillies' Mile and then finished a close third – beaten half a length and a head – to Sayyedati and Niche in the Group 1 1000 Guineas.

CLODOVIL ADDS TO HIS TALLY

Classic-winning miler and Rathasker Stud stallion Clodovil (by Danehill) notched up his 18th individual stakes winner when Tinnitus took the Group 3 Altia Polar Cup over seven furlongs at Ovrevoll, in Norway, on Sunday.

The Niels Petersen-trained four-year-old was bred in Ireland by Awbeg Stud, he is out of Star Now (by Librettist) and so is inbred 3x3 to Danzig (by Northern Dancer).

His dam's siblings include the dual juvenile listed scorer Bibury Flyer (by Zafonic) and his grandam is Affair Of State (by Tate Gallery), whose blacktype success came at the Curragh as a two-year-old.

This is a branch of the family of Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Nicer (by Pennine Walk), of dual Australian Group 1 scorer Suavito (by Thorn Park), and of French-bred Italian Group 1 winner and champion Passing Sale (by No Pass No Sale).

Clodovil's tally also includes Group 1 scorers Moriarty and Nahoodh and the Group 2 winners Es Que Love and Gregorian. That latter pair stand at Rathasker Stud and the National Stud respectively and both have their first yearlings on offer now.

MAKFI PATTERN WINNER

Classic-winning miler Makfi (by Dubawi), who spent four seasons at Tweenhills Farm & Stud and two at Haras de Bonneval before moving to Japan, was among the blacktype sires of last weekend.

His son Fabricate is owned and bred by Queen Elizabeth, he is trained by Michael Bell and he won the Group 3 Bet & Watch At sunbets.co.uk Winter Hill Stakes over 10 furlongs at Windsor on Saturday evening.

This was a fifth win from 15 starts for the 112-rated five-year-old.

A half-brother to the prolific dual-purpose gelding Aladdins Cave (by Rainbow Quest), Fabricate is out of the lightly-raced Group 1 Oaks runner-up Flight Of Fancy (by Sadler's Wells) and his grandam is the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes and Group 2 Geoffrey Freer Stakes heroine Phantom Gold (by Machiavellian).

Makfi's 17 stakes winners include four who have won at the highest level, notably classic star and Ballylinch Stud stallion Make Believe and the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks and Group 1 Australian Oaks heroine Bonneval.

REPEAT GROUP 2 FOR PIVOTAL SON

Qatar Racing Ltd's Lightning Spear, who chased home Ribchester in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes in May and finished third to Here Comes When in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes in early August, is now a dual winner of the Group 2 Grosvenor Sport Celebration Mile Stakes.

The six-year-old beat Zonderland by one and three-quarter lengths in the 2016 edition of the race and pipped that same rival by a nose at Goodwood on Saturday.

He was bred by Newsells Park Stud, he is a son of outstanding Cheveley Park Stud stallion Pivotal (by Polar Falcon) and he is out of Atlantic Destiny (by Royal Academy).

That mare won the Listed Sirenia Stakes as a juvenile, was placed in the Listed Woodcote Stakes and Listed Dragon Trophy that same season, and went on to become a multiple blacktype winner in the USA.

Her offspring also include the Listed Newmarket Stakes winner Ocean War (by Dalakhani) and the stakes-placed pair First Destinity (by Lawman) and Seaway (by Dr Fong).

Atlantic Destiny is among six winners out of a mare called Respectfully (by The Minstrel) and that makes her a half-sister to Make No Mistake (by Darshaan), who won the Group 2 Royal Whip Stakes and Group 3 Meld Stakes, and was third in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup – all when trained by Dermot Weld – before going on to take a couple of Grade 3s in the USA.

Pivotal's sons include the blacktype sires Siyouni, Kyllachy, Falco, Excellent Art, and Farhh, which augurs well for the future prospects of Lightning Spear, who has done more than enough to earn a good berth at stud.
