JUVENILE Group 1 star Tagula has been represented by two brilliant sons during his long career.

One is Limato, the Group 1 July Cup and Prix de la Foret victor who was among the world’s most highly-rated horses of 2016.

The other is Canford Cliffs, the brilliant miler whose early runners have been producing pattern winners. They also include a classic performer and there is every reason to believe that Coolmore’s team member can become at least as successful as his own sire.

Painted Cliffs (dam by Kyllachy) won the Group 2 Railway Stakes as a juvenile, Most Beautiful (dam by Cape Cross) was Group 2-placed at that age and a pattern winner at the Curragh, while Al Jazi (dam by Cape Cross) won the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood last summer.

Aktoria (dam by Zafonic) is a stakes winner at Deauville, Harlequeen (dam by Rainbow Quest) was placed in the Group 1 Oaks and Irish Oaks in 2016, and Salouen (dam by Galileo) is a classic candidate. That Sylvester Kirk-trained colt chased home National Defense in the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere and finished third in the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy, earning a rating of 110.

NOTABLE

The notable early offspring of Canford Cliffs also include the Hugo Palmer-trained Wall Of Fire (dam by Galileo). That 107-rated colt is not yet a blacktype horse, and he stays farther than one expects of a son of his sire, but he showed himself to be a potential stakes or pattern horse of 2017 when rounding off his three-year-old campaign with wins in both the Melrose Stakes at York and Mallard Stakes at Doncaster, both competitive handicaps in which he carried high weights.

Canford Cliffs’s yearlings made up to 110,000gns in Newmarket last year, up to £85,000 in Doncaster and up to €80,000 at Goffs.

He is the best of several multiple winners out of the unraced Mrs Marsh and his dam is a half-sister to the Grade 1-placed dual Group/Grade 2 scorer Triple Threat (by Monsun), who is about to begin his stallion career in France.
