THE shuttle stallion experiment of the 1980s produced results that transformed the global bloodstock industry and, in recent years, we are seeing an increase in the number of ‘reverse shuttle’ horses who are making an impact in the northern hemisphere.

Exceed And Excel, Fastnet Rock and Choisir are three notable examples, each of them a representative of the Danehill (by Danzig) sire line and each now with stallion sons of their own.

Coolmore Stud’s roster for 2017 includes a new reverse shuttler, Pride Of Dubai. He is out of a Danehill mare, he represents a branch of the Mr Prospector (by Raise A Native) sire line, and although Australian born and raced, everything about his pedigree is totally familiar to a European audience.

The dual Group 1 star is a son of Street Cry (by Machiavellian), one of the top sires in the USA, champion sire in Australia, and responsible for the successful stallions Shocking, Street Boss, Street Hero and Street Sense.

Street Cry’s stakes-placed full-sister Helsinki is the dam of classic star and leading sire Shamardal (by Giant’s Causeway), whose early stallion sons include Group 1 sire Lope De Vega.

Al Anood, the stakes-placed dam of Pride Of Dubai, is a half-sister to Chiang Mai (by Sadler’s Wells), who is the Group 2-winning dam of Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes heroine Chinese White (by Dalakhani), but, from the point of view of stallion potential, more notable is the identity of her other high-class sibling.

Rafha (by Kris) won the Group 1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks) and she is dam of both Group 1-winning sprinter and major European sire Invincible Spirit (by Green Desert) and of stakes-placed Kodiac (by Danehill), also one of the most sought-after sires in Europe.

Invincible Spirit gets sprinters, milers and middle-distance horses, his lengthy Group 1 roll of honour features brilliant runners such as Kingman and Moonlight Cloud, and he is giving signs that he may be on the verge of building a dynasty as a growing number of his sons and daughter are excelling at stud.

Kodiac got his chance due to his pedigree and has proved his worth, working his way up through the ranks to become a stallion who could even get a classic-winning miler before long.

He is a prolific source of leading juveniles, of high-class sprinters and some notable milers, and he has four sons who are just about to begin their first season at stud: Adaay, Coulsty, Kodi Bear, and Prince Of Lir.

Another notable sire to have emerged from this family is the classic-placed pattern winner and leading sire Pitcairn (by Petingo).

Won two races, $1,336,100, from 6 furlongs to 7 furlongs, at 2 years viz., Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes, Randwick, Gr.1, William Hill Blue Diamond Stakes, Caulfield, Gr.1, also placed second in Sportingbet Blue Diamond Prelude (c&g), Caulfield, Gr.3.

Retired to stud in Australia in 2016, in Ireland in 2017
