BOTH the Sadler’s Wells and Alleged sire lines have made a considerable impact on National Hunt racing, and in Sea Moon we have a horse who not only represents a combination of those, but whose many notable relations include a horse who won at the recent Cheltenham Festival.

A classic- and Breeders’ Cup-placed triple Group 2 scorer by the regally related and highly successful dual-purpose stallion Beat Hollow (by Sadler’s Wells), he is out of the Group 3 Park Hill Stakes winner Eva Luna (by Alleged).

Her star son Brian Boru (by Sadler’s Wells), who could be described as being a three-parts brother to Sea Moon, won both the Group 1 St Leger and Racing Post Trophy and his progeny include the National Hunt graded winners Bold Sir Brian, Fox Appeal, Next Sensation, Shotgun Paddy and Sub Lieutenant.

Being so closely related to a successful stallion augurs well for Sea Moon’s prospects.

His half-sister Moon Search (by Rainbow Quest) won the Group 2 Prix de Royallieu, two other siblings have produced listed winners at stud, but the one with the most famous son is Soviet Moon (by Sadler’s Wells), dam of the Group 1 Derby and Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe hero Workforce (by King’s Best). He stands at the famous Shadai Stallion Station in Japan and his oldest progeny are now three.

Eva Luna is out of the Group 1 Oaks runner-up Media Luna (by Star Appeal) and she has three siblings of note, one of whom is her stakes-placed full-sister Petralona.

It is that filly who is the dam of Grade 1 Challow Hurdle runner-up Big Moment (by Be My Guest) and of Minella Rocco (by Shirocco), winner of the listed four-mile chase at Cheltenham.

Eva Luna’s stakes-winning half-sister Rougeur (by Blushing Groom) is the dam of Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks and Alabama Stakes star Flute (by Seattle Slew) and grandam of several notable performers, including the multiple Grade 1-placed Grade 2 winning filly Filimbi (by Mizzen Mast).

She is also a half-sister to Medicosma (by The Minstrel), a non-blacktype earner whose daughter Perihelion (by Galileo) was runner-up in the Group 2 Park Hill Stakes before becoming the dam of last year’s Group 1 Oaks winner Qualify (by Fastnet Rock). Sea Moon represents a sire line that was responsible for seven of the Grade 1 winners at the recent Cheltenham Festival, including the Gold Cup hero Don Cossack (by Sholokhov), he is a three-parts brother to a successful stallion and one of his most famous relations stands at one of the world’s most powerful studs.

He has the talent and pedigree to become a huge success as a National Hunt stallion, and as he is standing alongside Shantou (by Alleged), and at the farm from where Bob Back (by Roberto) sired so many Grade 1 stars, he is perfectly positioned to make an impact.

Won six races, £791,602, from 1 mile 2 furlongs to 1 mile 4 furlongs, from 2 to 5 years including, Hardwicke Stakes, Ascot, Gr.2, Herbert Power Stakes, Caulfield, Gr.2, Great Voltigeur Stakes, York, Gr.2, Tapster Stakes, Goodwood, L, also placed second in Breeders’ Cup Turf, Churchill Downs, Gr.1, St Leger Trial, Curragh, Gr.3, The Bart Cummings Handicap, Flemington, L, and third in St Leger Stakes, Doncaster, Gr.1, Finale Stakes, Curragh, L. Retires to stud in 2016.
