BRUTENOR and Pan Cam Income both continued on their winning runs both making it three wins in a row at the well-presented Bishopsland track on Saturday July, 10th.

Luke Kelleher took the catch drive on Brutenor for Hillside Farms with retained driver Patrick Hill opting to drive stable companion Aubade à Helene.

The latter went off stride early allowing Eddy Marceaux to lead from Brutenor and Bibi Dairpet. In the end, Brutenor held on for a head victory in a blanket finish.

Pan Cam Income had a tougher task in his win. Brywins Magician and Rhyds Panache battled for early supremacy with the former winning that early duel. Heading out on the final circuit, the order remained the same. Down the back straight Pan Cam Income was produced but found Brywins Magician a hard nut to crack.

On the run to the line, Pan Cam Income got the upper hand and won by half a length for Co Clare-based owner John Moloney.

Teddy Camden, a winner a few weeks ago in Dunmanway, enhanced his growing reputation taking the top grade pace.

Supreme Sunshine was the “hare” this time and led for the opening lap with Teddy Camden sat in behind and race favourite Llywns Delight on a 30-yard handicap.

Into the second lap, Teddy Camden (who is trained at the track) was set alight and led with two furlongs to pace. All the while Llywns Delight was closing but couldn’t get to the leader and Teddy Camden had two lengths to spare at the finish. The winner was driven by usual partner Derry McCarthy.

More wins

Donal Murphy added two more wins in his quest for The Irish Field National Drivers Championship. Murphy took the opener on Hail Spartacus. The Leap runner and On Top Big C had a battle throughout the race and were joined by Two Left Feet in the home straight.

It was anybody’s race on the uphill run to the line but Hail Spartacus held on by half a length from On Top Big C with Two Left Feet another half a length back in third.

Murphy completed his double on IB Paddington who after a few disappointing runs, got it right today. Share A Smile led from the start and shook off the challenge Of Tommy’s Girl after a lap.

On the final circuit, IB Paddington began to close and wore down the long-time leader on the run to the line and had three-quarters of a length in hand on the line.

Vallanzana has been knocking at the door in the last few weeks and the Kenmare-based trotter got her overdue success with a pillar-to-post win in the Grade F & E Trot. Seamus Quill was in the bike.

Racing concluded with a grade G & G1 Pace and Limerick brothers John and Pa Manning dominated matters here with John coming out on top with the regally bred Last Pan Standing who shook off Greentree Euphoria driven by brother Pa after six furlongs. He also had to contend with a late surge from Royal Mint II but the post came in time.

Cattlewash owned by Bill Donovan won the Graduate Final Series

Donovan success

IN the early hours of Sunday morning news came through of another success in America by ‘one of our own’, none other than Bill Donovan that major benefactor of the Irish scene.

Donovan’s best horse at the moment, the four-year-old entire Cattlewash took out the $250,000 Graduate Series Final at The Meadowlands, New Jersey. The stallion won in 1:47.1 over a sloppy track said to be two seconds slow.

Various Irish breeders will be pleased with the news as Cattlewash was used (by AI) on several local mares in the spring. The straws were made available through the ‘Invest In Ourselves’ initiative, yet another hand up devised by Bill with the IHRA.

Heston Blue Chip and Betting Line were also available under the scheme. Cattlewash is unusual in that he is still racing whereas the other two stallions are retired to stud.
