ANDREW Balding’s fine recent run shows no sign of slackening off and the Kingsclere trainer landed another prestigious prize when soft ground specialist Here Comes When, ridden by Oisin Murphy, led well over a furlong out in the Group 3 Unibet Mile and kept on gamely to repel Jane Chapple-Hyam’s Circus Couture by a length with Regal Reality third.
The money came for Here Comes When, 3/1, who is very hard to beat when the mud is flying. Everything is working out well for the yard at the moment. “Everyone knows the ground makes a big difference to him,” Anna Lisa Balding commented. “It slows all the others down but he keeps going through it.”
BACKERS
Richard Kingscote delighted favourite backers by bringing home Great Scot, a 13/8 chance, two lengths ahead of Floating Artist in the Listed 32Red Casino Ascendant Stakes over a mile.
A Requinto youngster, Great Scot was keen enough but saw it out well and will stay further in time.
“The idea was to hold him up but they went no gallop in the ground,” said winning trainer Tom Dascombe. “He was desperately unlucky in France last time so he deserved that.”
