FRANKIE Dettori probably fancied his chances of a treble on Gosden’s Lady Of Camelot in yesterday’s closing Dubai Business Internships Pride Stakes over 10 furlongs but the favourite was swept aside by Tony Martin’s 13/2 chance Laganore, who strode clear in the closing stages to score by four lengths.

This was an excellent piece of placing by the canny handler because Laganore, a close second in a Group 3 at Gowran Park last time, was actually dropping down a grade to run at listed level. More than happy against her own sex, she had the considerable assistance of Jim Crowley, who is surely on his way to a first jockeys’ title.

It was also a splendid day for Andrew Balding, whose durable old stalwart Highland Colori appreciated first-time blinkers in the valuable mile handicap at York and obliged at 22/1. The in-form Brian Meehan was also on the mark on the Knavesmire with Calvinist and hot favourite Raheen House.

Frankie Dettori completed a double on the day when John Gosden’s newcomer Astronomy’s Choice proved just too good for First Dance in the visionsport.com Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.

By Redoute’s Choice out of Astronomy Domine, who has plenty of stamina in the family, the winner found this coming to her assistance in the closing stages as she stayed on a shade too strongly for the slightly more experienced runner-up.

Richard Hannon’s Heavenly Angel came next, ahead of Hugo Palmer’s Raven’s Pass debutante Alouja, who was made 3/1 favourite on the strength of her work on the gallops but will be better for the experience.
