Apollo Fountain
Andre Fabre
(2f No Nay Never – Fount, by Frankel)
Apollo Fountain won a listed race in good style and the plan will be to go to the Group 3 Prix de Cabourg at Deauville.
Babouche
Ger Lyons
(2f Kodiac – Pavlosk, by Arch)
Babouche is a lovely filly who was very impressive on her debut. The plan is to run her on Sunday in the Group 3 Anglesey Stakes at the Curragh.
Bluestocking
Ralph Beckett
(4f Camelot – Emulous, by Dansili)
Bluestocking’s win in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes has thus far been the highlight of our season. She showed great tenacity to run down Emily Upjohn, who is a high-class filly. We feel she is very versatile trip-wise between 10 and 12 furlongs, and the races under consideration for her include the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes, the Nassau Stakes and the Yorkshire Oaks. The owners would be keen at having a tilt at the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe later in the year.
Encompass
John and Thady Gosden
(2c Kingman – Enable, by Nathaniel)
John and Thady are both pleased with his progress and feel he could be ready to make his debut in September.
Field Of Gold
John and Thady Gosden
(2c Kingman – Princess De Lune, by Shamardal)
Field Of Gold is a lovely, tall, unfurnished colt that should improve as he matures. He was impressive winning last week and Kieran Shoemark was very taken with him. We will give him some time now to develop and hopefully he will be able to point towards the Acomb Stakes at York or the Solario Stakes at Sandown, both of which come at the end of August.
Kalpana
Andrew Balding
(3f Study Of Man – Zero Gravity, by Dansili)
Kalpana has been a lovely surprise this season. She definitely saves her best for the racetrack and I felt like she ran a lovely race at Royal Ascot on very fast ground which wasn’t ideal. We will have a good look at the Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton on Friday (she won easily), but she could be an exciting filly later in the season.
Kikkuli
Harry Charlton
(3c Kingman – Kind, by Danehill)
Kikkuli ran satisfactorily in the Prix Jean Prat; it always comes up very quick after Royal Ascot and the hard-fought duel he had with Haatem probably left its mark. Harry Charlton will freshen him up now and we will look for races in the second half of August to early September as a prep for the Breeders’ Cup Mile.
Laurel
John and Thady Gosden
(5m Kingman – Promising Lead, by Danehill)
It was great to have Laurel back in action after 396 days off the track. As you can imagine, a Group 2 at Royal Ascot is never an easy introduction after such a lay-off, but she ran a brilliant race and we look forward to her. She has options between the Nassau Stakes and Prix Rothschild. John and Thady Gosden will decide closer to the time.
Okeechobee
Harry Charlton
(5g Time Test – Scuffle, by Daylami)
Okeechobee is a very nice horse but unfortunately his setback will rule him out for the season. Given how little he has run, we will persevere with him next season.
Red Letter
Ger Lyons
(2f Frankel – Red Impression, by Dark Angel)
We were very pleased with her first run. She is a very big filly, had a gentle preparation for her first run and could possibly run in a maiden at the Curragh this Sunday. We hope she could develop into a Moyglare Stud Stakes filly.
Star Magnolia
Ger Lyons
(3f Kingman – Pavlosk, by Arch)
Star Magnolia was very well-regarded going into her first race at Dundalk. She won like a nice filly and we feel she can make an impact at stakes level. Unfortunately, she sustained a setback and won’t run again before September. Her half-sister Zarinsk is currently in foal to No Nay Never. She is letting down well and is a very nice addition to the Juddmonte broodmare band.
Wendla
Ger Lyons
(3f Ulysses – Intercontinental, by Danehill)
Wendla’s Group 3 win at Leopardstown was a great surprise and a welcome boost for the family. She a very genuine filly who needs time between her races; we ran her back far too quickly in the Brownstown Stud Stakes, where she ran okay. She will be given a break now and freshened up for an autumn campaign.
On Chaldean’s first season at stud
Chaldean was immensely popular during his first season at stud. He covered a good book of mares which will insure he is given a good change with his two-year-olds. Most of the top breeders in Ireland, England and France have supported him, there are too many to name just a few.
On the decision to shuttle Chaldean to Cambridge Stud in New Zealand
Juddmonte have shuttled to the Southern Hemisphere in the past, but I believe Zafonic was the last, so there has been quite a gap since then. The demand from Southern Hemisphere breeders was very significant, so Prince Khalid’s family felt this was an ideal opportunity to revisit shuttling. Cambridge Stud is a top-class facility and we have been very impressed with how they have developed their young stallions, which was a huge factor in partnering in this venture.
On Kingman
Kingman is having an unbelievable season, two classic winners and getting to 50 group winners in such a short space of time is a phenomenal achievement. From his very first crop he has showed he is a sire of top-class ability, and this year emphasises that more than ever.
