IEVA host event on
surgery and lameness
THE Irish Equine Veterinary Association (IEVA) will continue its CPD 2024 Series with an event titled ‘Surgery and Lameness’ on Saturday, August 31st.
Kindly hosted by the Irish National Stud, the event is geared towards recent veterinary graduates and veterinary surgeons, and will cover a wide range of topics from field anaesthesia, castration, wounds and fractures. It will also look at the global career opportunities for equine veterinary practitioners as well as the importance of good client consultancy and engagement.
A panel of leading experts in the Irish equine veterinary field have been assembled, namely Simon Hennessey, Leah McGlinchy, Patricia Romero Marco, John Ortega McCormack, and Marcus Swail. IEVA President Sabrina Barnwell will be overseeing proceedings.
Registration will commence at 9am in Osborne Hall at the Irish National Stud. Lunch and an optional stud visit will follow the last lecture. CVI points are pending. Space is limited, so tickets can be purchased early on www.irisheva.ie.
Majority share of King George winner sold
IMPRESSIVE King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Goliath is set to run for new connections after prominent American owner-breeder John Stewart of Resolute Racing negotiated a deal for 75% of the gelding.
As reported by the Thoroughbred Daily News, trainer Francis-Henri Graffard is set to point the son of Alderflug towards either in the Prix Foy at ParisLongchamp or Preis von Europa at Cologne next. The Qipco Champion Stakes, Breeders’ Cup Turf and Japan Cup are all on the table later in the year for the four-year-old, who has been running in the colours of Philip Baron Von Ullmann.
Tattersalls appointments
TATTERSALLS has announced two new appointments within their team, as Shirley Anderson-Jolag has taken over the role of sales manager of Tattersalls Jockey Club Sales and Katherine Sheridan becomes sales manager of Tattersalls Online.
Anderson-Jolag joined Tattersalls in 2015 and has since played a key role in developing and promoting Tattersalls sales at Cheltenham, in addition to her recent role as UK client relations liaison for Tattersalls Ireland.
Sheridan joined Tattersalls as online sales executive in 2022, having previously spent 10 years abroad, firstly working as an attorney in New York before moving to Australia where she worked as credit controller at Magic Millions and manager of operations, client relations and marketing at Newhaven Park.
Irish Equine Centre make key appointment
JILL Bryan has been announced as the new head of pathology at the Irish Equine Centre.
She brings a wealth of expertise in equine diagnostic pathology and internal medicine, with her “extensive experience and dedication to the field” expected to make her a valuable addition to the team.
For the past seven years, Bryan has been based in Newmarket where she has worked as an equine diagnostic pathologist at a specialist equine laboratory. She has particular interests in equine abortion investigation and infectious diseases, and in 2019 was awarded recognised specialist status in equine veterinary pathology by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Breeder of the Month winner revealed
CONGRATULATIONS to Jimmy Mangan, who has been voted as July’s winner of the Connolly’s Red Mills/The Irish Field Breeder of the Month award. Mangan is responsible for breeding Tote Galway Plate winner Pinkerton.
