Fillies Maiden 6f

An open affair in which newcomer Vierson makes some appeal on paper. By prominent first-season sire Blue Point, the Ciaran Murphy-trained filly cost €80,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze-Up Sale and is a half-sister to last year’s Rockfel Stakes fourth Sweet Harmony. Johnny Murtagh’s newcomer Ebanza, by Night Of Thunder, is of obvious interest too. It’s interesting to see her starting out over six furlongs given all the stamina in her pedigree. The experience of Willie McCreery’s Au Lait is bound to be a big asset here as she makes her fourth start, while also being fitted with a visor for the first time. Michael O’Callaghan’s Do Si Do merits respect.

The form of Il Pellegrino’s debut second at the Curragh last month was nicely boosted when ready winner Pipsy followed up with a listed success on her next start at Dundalk. Natural improvement from that first outing should make the Joseph O’Brien-trained colt tough to beat.

Emperor Of Rome, representing Aidan O’Brien, was a couple of lengths behind the selection on that occasion but it was his first start since the spring so there must be a chance that he improves for the run. That said, it will be interesting to see if he appears here given he is also declared for the Birdcatcher at the same track today.

It’s difficult to look beyond King Cuan as he bids for a hat-trick of wins for the in-form Paddy Twomey. Testing ground and stepping up to seven furlongs for the first time will ask a different question of him than has been the case before but he brings a fair deal of class to the table and has been well placed by connections.

Megarry posted a good performance last time to win the Listed Blenheim Stakes at Fairyhouse and is the highest-rated runner in the line-up. Whether he is crying out to go back up to seven furlongs on testing ground remains to be seen. My Mate Alfie, a solid enough third in the Goffs Million, has to give weight to all rivals and isn’t best treated by the race conditions but he is a likeable type who should be in the thick of things again. Uluru impressed on debut for Kevin Coleman at Gowran and has since been snapped up by Team Valor and Joseph O’Brien.

A cut in the ground clearly plays to Honey Girl’s strengths and she appears to have her perfect conditions here. It’s not ideal that she concedes weight to the whole field as a Group 3 winner, and she was a tad disappointing at Tipperary last time, but this test ought to suit her better than the assignment she faced last time.

Stablemate American Sonja is generally consistent and should be on the premises again but it’s always possible that she can find one too good. She shouldn’t be far away, though. Simply Sideways has work to do on the ratings but has been in spectacular form for a red-hot stable and it wouldn’t be a shock if she managed to nick some blacktype. Good Gracious, runner-up in a listed race in Sweden last month, is an interesting contender for William Haggas, and is worth a look in the market.

A somewhat tricky affair to solve, with questions to answer around many of the leading players. A chance is taken on the Ger Lyons-trained Redressed, who should be in her element getting back on to easy ground after missing time following her last start on good ground in May. This trip is an unknown for her but looks well worth a try, with her second to Insinuendo in the Park Express Stakes earlier this season a fine effort on soft to heavy ground.

Perfect Portrait ran well when fourth in the Listed Corrib Stakes at Galway last time and should give another decent account, while the Dermot Weld-trained Azazat was safely held last time at Newmarket in a Group 3 but ought to be comfortable in this type of company.

Her rating of 101 is the best on offer here.

There was plenty to like about the performance of Dutch Gold when winning at the Curragh on Thursday, handling the cut in the ground well. He turns out under a 7lb penalty but Noel Meade has astutely booked Neil Ryan (claims 7lb) to offset that challenge. The extended 10 furlongs is right up his street.

Yamalia Star has generally been running consistently well and should go close but is frustrating to follow and can be prone to finding one or two too strong.Bottler’secret appeared to relish the ease in the ground when winning a Galway Festival maiden and is the least exposed of these, now trying handicap company for the first time.

Immutable bumped into one last time but is another with live claims in an open race.

She wasn’t an obvious eyecatcher given she was beaten eight and a quarter lengths but La Dame Blanche made some late headway at the Curragh last weekend over an insufficient trip and could be much better for the step back up in trip. She has the potential to be well handicapped on her best form and has a hood fitted for the first time. At an each-way price, she wouldn’t be without a squeak.

Fools Glory deserves to win one of these and has been generally reliable, bumping into a well-handicapped winner last time when third at Navan. An ease in the ground doesn’t appear to inconvenience her either.

Red Trail was said to be coughing after her hurdles defeat last time and was in excellent nick on the flat prior to that.

A 9lb hike for winning at Down Royal last time doesn’t make life any easier for Brogue but the form of that handicap got a boost when runner-up Pachmena won at the Curragh last weekend and this Dermot Weld-trained gelding was once viewed as a likely stakes performer. Proven on the ground and likely to stay, he might still be more talented than his mark of 89 and needs to be taken seriously.

Willie Mullins has four live contenders and the booking of Colin Keane for Raving Royal is a positive. The four-year-old filly hasn’t been seen since winning at Thurles around this time last year and time has shown that beating Zoffman when that rival was rated 80 (won October Handicap on next start and later promoted to mark of 94) was a fair effort. She is still pretty unexposed. Teed Up has plenty of weight but can’t be ruled out lightly, while Stoke The Fire is 3lb out of the handicap but might just be the type to raise his game for being stepped into a better class of race than last time.
