After De Temps En Temps won his bumper last time out, Gavin Cromwell said: “He’ll make into a nice novice for next year.” He had finished a promising second on his earlier hurdle debut and sole point start, so he looks the one to beat today.
Stablemate Ufouria shaped like a nice type, when winning a mares bumper last month and is worth considering on her hurdle debut. De Temps En Temps now carries the same silks of Emmet Mullins’ representative Watchful Protector, who finished a promising third on debut in a Limerick bumper, when he was well-supported.
Kish Bank produced an improved round of jumping on his second start over hurdles and should improve again today. Reliable Prince made a promising start behind him and, given the difference in their experience, it wouldn’t be outside the realms of possibility that he could reverse the placings here.

Chortal appeals on handicap debut, having finished fourth on his hurdle bow over course and distance. Last time out at Punchestown, he finished four and a half lengths behind Money Dancer, who boasted some smart form at Leopardstown on her previous start.
The ground is a question mark for Janes Harbour, on her first run since November. She ran well on her last two starts, including against Lakota Blue, who has failed to reproduce his earlier promise, despite the application of headgear. He now benefits from Carl Millar’s 5lb claim.
Kaptain Bay has also run well against decent types, but this flat recruit may prefer drier ground.

Beckett Rock was holding his own against two smart horses at Clonmel in January, so their subsequent blunders shouldn’t degrade his win. His pedigree suggests there may be more to come over today’s trip, too.
No Looking Back won a Grade 2 before missing most of last season. He should strip fitter from his last two runs, and has dropped to what looks a workable mark. Sporting Glory is another useful type, and should be better suited by this trip and grade.
Slane Hill justified a 9lb hike when finishing a fine fifth in a premier handicap over Christmas and comes here off the same mark.
Today’s lack of a five-pound claimer shouldn’t rule out his chances, but he might prefer better ground.
Glen Kiln may also remain on a workable mark, having run well for a long way in a valuable three-mile hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival, while festive listed winner Dancing Jeremy hopes to make use of his lower rating over hurdles.

Leah’s Contessa availed of a golden opportunity to break her maiden in a weak contest over course and distance last month, and the benefit of that experience might bring further improvement today.
Lord Lariat is also expected to build on his most recent effort, with the 2022 Irish Grand National victor having finished a fine fourth over course and distance after almost two years off the track.
The in-form One And Only, Wardens Whisper and Way Down South all appear to be at workable marks.

Willie Mullins’ Aintree hero and Troytown Chase winners clash, alongside other talented staying chasers seeking a return to form. Townend’s choice I Am Maximus won this last year, having won a Grade 1 two months earlier and, while he hasn’t fired on both his starts this season, this drop in grade may revive him.
This class may also see an improved effort from stablemate, Minella Cocooner, third in the track’s showpiece last season, and he meets Irish National winner, Intense Raffles, on more equal terms today.
Last season’s form ranks Nick Rockett below both of those, but he’s gone up the ratings in just two starts this season. There may be more to come, but his tendency to jump right in the Thyestes and performance in the Irish National would be a concern.
French Dynamite picked up an injury in the Charlie Hall Chase and, following a short break, the 10-year-old may have needed the run at Thurles last time.

A poor turnout, especially considering the possibility that Will Do may not run, having finished a fine second in Thursday’s Grand National Trial at Punchestown.
Ney sprung a surprise on last month’s chase and stable debut and, while today’s field is more competitive, the ease in which he won and perfect jumping make him a strong contender.
Jasmine De Cotte and Sea Aster may be seen to better effect on drier ground, while Meyo may need the run, having been absent since his promising chase debut in August.

Bioluminescence is the obvious choice, having won a Grade 2 on chasing debut and ran with great credit under a penalty next time, finishing second to Dancing City. Kilbarry Saint produced a career-best over fences when second against a talented Irish mare in a listed event at Exeter last time out. Wearing a first-time hood that day, she finished strongly, suggesting there could be more to come over today’s trip.
Grade 1 hurdler Spindleberry made a winning, if unimpressive, start over fences in December. It was her first start of the season, so she’s entitled to improve.

Plenty of potentially smart horses, including Eachtotheirown, who was well-backed on debut, when separating a Champion Bumper contender and a wide-margin point-to-point winner. Khmer was runner-up in another competitive affair last time, the winner Green Splendour subsequently fifth in a Grade 2 at Leopardstown.
The four-year-old maiden, in which Arslan finished second on debut, looked a relatively ordinary affair, but the sales-topping price he subsequently sold for would disagree. A bumper would better suit his breeding, as a son of Wootton Bassett, out of a dual Grade 1 winner on the flat.
Stablemate Kaiser Ball shares his owner and rider with Asian Master, having been retained by the Costello family for €60,000 at the store sales. His pedigree has improved since then, with his full-sister placing in a Grade 1 bumper in France.
Frankie John sold for £275,000 after winning a Boulta maiden, but returned to Denis Hogan. He finished a promising fourth on rules debut behind Copacabana, now a 6/1 shot for the Champion Bumper. Sticktotheplan and Riskaway are both worth a market check, having shown promise between the flags.
