KING GEORGE V STAKES

(Handicap)

WHEN the bookmakers take a grip they seldom relax it but there was good money for Roger Charlton’s Atty Persse, 7/1, in the last.

The horse with a famous name from the past and an even more famous sire from the present did Frankel proud by hitting the front two furlongs out in the King George V Handicap and galloping clear to beat First Nation by three lengths, with Bear Valley third.

Atty Persse, on a winning run, had the widest draw in 22 and was sporting cheekpieces.

Clearly improving at a rate of knots, he was very well ridden by Kieran Shoemark, who kicked clear when the others were watching each other and soon put the race to bed.

Frankel devotees will be delighted that his son stayed a mile and a half with ease and it will be no great surprise if Atty Persse steps up to group company soon.

Shoemark’s 3lb allowance will soon be a thing of the past.
