THE winners of the two divisions of Saturday’s EI100 class at Killossery Lodge Stud had been in opposition seven days earlier at Rosanna (2) where Sarah Ennis came out on top in the ISH Eventing Series class for five-year-olds with Derek McConnell’s Derroon Diplomat.

Here, the Ricardo Z gelding completed on his dressage score (24.5) as did five of the six behind him in Section A. Amanda Goldsbury led after the first phase on Arkan Babe (24) but, on her first start at this level, the five-year-old Arkan mare had a pole down show jumping and then dropped out of contention when glancing off the log after the water (13).

The Emma Jackson-ridden Master Fuerst made his full Eventing Ireland debut in that Rosanna (2) class but, after four show jumping penalties and a green stop at the first of the cross-country fences, he finished well down the leaderboard.

On Saturday, Jackson and the chesnut Masurenfuerst gelding completed on the same flat work mark as the Clare Lambert-ridden Edentrillick Ruby Tuesday but took the honours as being nearer the optimum time. Bred by Helen Troughton out of a mare by The Bard, Master Fuerst had finished fifth in the five-year-old young event horse class at Balmoral.

Having previously represented the Carlow Branch of the Irish Pony Club, Jack Carr started competing under EI rules this season and, on board the 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding Bornio (by Namelus R), he notched up his second EI100J victory when completing on his winning dressage score (29.5).

On her third start, Carr’s sister Rachel recorded an all-the-way success in the EI90P class with the 12-year-old Gigman Orinoco gelding Araglen Bucks Fizz.

Grace Adams took over the ride on the family’s 12-year-old Connemara gelding Myshall Rodge this season and, having finished third first time out at Tyrella (3) and second on their next appearance at Lisgarvan House (1), it was a case of third time lucky on Saturday. Although completing on the same score (34.5) as Nadine Dunne and Lucky Flash in the EI100P, Adams and Myshall Rodge (by Coosheen Thyme) did so without the addition of penalties on the jumping phases.

On the pre-novice track, the birch roll tops at 17 and 18 caused most of the problems when riders tried to go straight instead of forfeiting time penalties by circling around between them.

Following a seven-year break, Cavan’s Eilis von Cramon returned to EI action at Rosanna (2) where she was pleased with her fourth-place finish on her Connemara mare Lough Conn Laura.

On Saturday, the combination showed the benefit of that experience by landing the 34-runner EI90 class where they added eight show jumping penalties to their impressive dressage score of 22. Von Cramon and her 10-year-old, by Matchmakers Lad, won the Connemara performance class at last year’s Riding Club Festival.

Not having evented at all last season, Lois Thompson has two smart types to compete for her uncle Jackie Harris this term and finished second here, on her dressage score (30.8), with the home-bred Rubane Candy.

The three pre-Tattersalls training competitions were won by Michael McNally on Eclipto (3*), Ruth Robinson with Bumble Bee Orchid (2*) and Brian Kuehnle on Rickamore Rafferty (1*).
