THE Connolly’s Red Mills/Association of Irish Riding Clubs’ national hunter trials championships are taking place tomorrow at Nuenna Farm, Freshford.

Forty-eight clubs will be represented by 172 riders, some doubly mounted, with other members working as officials and volunteers. Russellstown’s safety officer, Sean Doran, will be acting as technical delegate while those promoting female commentators in equestrian sports will be pleased to learn that the microphone will be ‘manned’ by Nuenna Farm’s public relations officer, Ailish Holohan.

The action is due to get under way at 10am with the RC80 open pairs’ competition and is scheduled to conclude around 4pm when the last of those in the RC100 championship, Donegal Gaeltacht secretary Emily Schneider, comes through the finish on Good Luck Misty. Along with her sister Laura, Emily won the RC100 open pairs’ competition at Flowerhill when the championships were last held in 2023.

Carr & Day & Martin will be supporting the fixture with best turned out prizes while, should you forget anything for yourself or horse, Kate’s Tack Shop will be on-site to assist. AIRC general manager Elaine Dunne will be putting the results up on the Association’s website throughout the day.
