THERE were just two starters in the FEI Junior classes, judged by Ann Glynn (List 3a) at the Midland and Western Region show at Annaharvey Farm last Sunday.

In action at Barnadown the previous day, Evie Kennedy turned out again at the Co Westmeath venue, where she won the team test with Hilary Cavanagh’s Spanish gelding Cordobes XXXVI (66.36%), a 23-year-old son of Jardon.

The home-based Maeve Deverell had to settle for second here with her mother Aisling’s ISH gelding Annaharvey Dunowen (65.61) but, in the individual test, Deverell and the 12-year-old Radolin dun turned the tables to win on 67.94 with Kennedy and Cordobes filling the runner-up slot (66.91).

Two combinations recorded doubles in front of Glynn. At Novice level, these were Abbey Ferris with her mother Mary’s Connemara gelding How Ya Sammy, a Woodfield Sammy nine-year-old, on whom she topped the leaderboard in the seven-strong DI21 (68.97%) and in the five-runner DI24A (69.33).

In both instances beating their sole rivals, Sara Wood and Avalon Next Generation, Melanie King and her Connemara gelding Gortacleeva John, a 10-year-old son of I Love You Melody, won the Medium DI65 on 64.84% and the DI67 on 64.09.

Glynn also judged the two Elementary classes. In the two-runner DI51, Patricia Frost was the only finisher with her traditionally-bred ISH gelding Ballj Spirit (66.48%), a 19-year-old Spirit House bay, while, on board the 14-year-old Templbready Fear Bui gelding Templebready Wise Guy (60.54), Aimee Conroy recorded an uncontested victory in the DI55.

Derval Diamond (List 3) judged all other classes, awarding her highest score of the day, 79.58%, to Evelyn Healion following her Preliminary DI18 test on David Miley’s home-bred ISH gelding Agreement, an eight-year-old Keamore Diamond Clover bay out of a Cavalier Royale mare.

Eleven combinations appeared before Diamond in the DI15 in the short arena, where her overall leaderboard was topped by Michelle Lucey with her Irish Draught grey Bouncer’s Son (78.04), a six-year-old Moylough Bouncer gelding.

Shauna Hughes claimed the honours in the opening six-strong DI Intro B on the Connemara gelding Drumcrave’s Chelton Boy (74.12%), a four-year-old son of Murvey Chelton out of a Laerkens Cascade Dawn; Lily Brennan saw off three rivals to win the Trailblazers Under 12 class with Longfield Pearl (69.11) and Laura Guinan posted an uncontested win in the Trailblazers Under 16 class riding Coolranahee Joy (67.14).
