THE third leg of the Jumpinaction.net Secondary Schools Jumping League got under way on a lovely sunny Sunday morning with the novice individual class kicking off the action.
Previous winners Ellen McGrath and Rusty had to be content with second place as Lily Sullivan, a pupil of Loreto St Stephen’s Green, absolutely flew around on CDS Curtheen Freddie, crossing the line in 29.29 seconds to win.
The third place slot went to Freya Alken with the lovely grey Glasson Shadow in 32.74 while only two seconds behind Fallon Doyle slotted into fourth. Julia White and the consistent Bonnie just pipped Aleisha Goslin and Sillogue Coco to take fifth place leaving Aleisha to be happy with sixth.
The Jumpinaction.net secondary school team competition had four teams through to the jump-off namely Colaiste De Lacy, Scoil Mhuire Trim, Maynooth Educate together and St Joseph’s Mercy Navan. First to go, Isla Smyth unfortunately took the top pole off fence five while schoolmate Abi Lawler jumped clear, good enough for second place.
Fast clear rounds from both Emma Keogh and Amelia McCarthy meant that Maynooth Educate together took victory. With an unfortunate four faults in a slower time, Scoil Mhuire Trim finished in fourth place. While a slightly faster four faults put St Joseph’s Mercy into third place.
The 90/95cm Championship was won by the speedy Ailbhe Hartford who whizzed around with Rodger in a time of 32.72. Ailbhe attends Loreto in Balbriggan and her closest rival was Amelia Mcarthy from Maynooth Community College who rode Finsceal Endeavor over the line in 34.09.
Holy Faith Clontarf student Suzie Geraghty moved up a spot this week to finish third. Livia McHale, representing the Institute of Education, rode Jijinx into fourth slot. Mount Sackville and Eureka took fifth and sixth with Anna Tully and Elisa Drum respectively.
Perfect start
The Breakaway Campers Primary School’s novice individuals is perfect for those starting off in the interschools. There were six who divided the spoils, taking the medals were representatives from a wide variety of schools.
These were Lucie Bagnall with Cheeky Caleb from Celbridge Educate Together, Lauren Reynolds on Cotterstown Dun from Lismullen NS, Isabelle Galligan with Hero from St Gerard’s, Rosita Dunne from Carlanstown riding Tattoo, Joseph Baker from Hedgestown with IC Spots and Ailbhe Reilly with Timmy from Dunboyne NS.
In the Breakaway Campers Open individual, always usual a very competitive class, riders made full use of the enhanced facilities. The line-up saw Alice Hartford with the speedy Little Richie copying her sister by taking this class in style in a time of 24.06.
Chasing her to the podium was Lena Quinn who travelled Marlton Sparky up from Wicklow for the occasion. Myries Dream, no stranger to Killossery, took her new rider into third spot. Local girl Sienna Donnelly, representing Rolestown NS, rode Bobby into fourth. Rosita Dunne with her second line-up of the day popped into fifth with Tattoo and the final place was filled by the very consistent Shanny with Freddie Greene in the saddle.
The Breakaway Campers Primary team competition had four teams through to the jump-off. First in to jump for St Andrew’s was James Greene who unfortunately picked up four faults. His team mate Niall Horgan jumped clear. Next in was Corduff with Emily White and Alice Hartford finishing in a combined total time of 78.01.
Trying to beat that time were Poppy O’Dwyer and Lilian Ward from St Seachnalls/St Paul’s their time of 86.35 was just good enough for third place. St Andrew’s pink team had a combined time of 80.98 with Juliette Heather and Tara Keogh, both trying hard to beat Corduff but their time was just good enough for second place.
