DERMOTT Lennon won the open four-star class at the Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera last Thursday, while Tom Wachman landed two victories at the venue.
Riding Zoe Harvey’s 11-year-old Irish Sport Horse MJM Pursuit (by Aldato) in the 1.50m one-round speed class, Lennon saw of 109 competitions, 47 of whom went clear, to secure victory in a time of 58.74 seconds, ahead of USA’s Julie Welles and Ambra (0/ 59.83). “I am very happy with the way the mare is jumping,” Lennon commented afterwards.
Fifteen-year-old Tipperary show jumper Tom Wachman had an excellent week at the Spanish venue, finishing with two victories and a runner-up place. His first win came in Friday’s four-star 1.30m two-phase class. Wachman guided Coolmore Showjumping’s 12-year-old mare Cesha OLD to the fastest of 33 clear rounds, beating Italy’s Camilla Vittadini into second place with Zallina Floreval (0/0 23.27).
The following day, Tom took another victory, this time in the 1.30m Table A aboard Quintessa Lox. The combination had almost four seconds to spare over Belgian runner-up Stephanie Falisse and Feoniki GB when breaking the beam in 56.02 seconds.
Tom completed his week with a runner-up finish in Sunday’s 1.35m jump-off with Cesha OLD, posting one of 12 clear rounds in the jump-off.
Max Wachman runner-up
Tom’s older brother, 16-year-old Max Wachman, posted one of the biggest results of his horse career so far when finishing second in the four-star 1.45m Medium Grand Prix at the Spanish Sunshine Tour last Sunday.
The pony European champion in 2019 and crowned The Irish Field Junior show jumper of the Year at the K Club last Monday, Max has moved into the horse ranks and opened the year with plenty of success at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida.
Riding Coolmore Showjumping’s 14-year-old gelding Atlantic du Seigneur, Wachman was among 12 of the starting 61 competitors to make it through the jump-off, where a second clear round in 31.49 seconds saw him slot into second place behind Britain’s Jessica Hewitt and Chilli (0/0 30.60).
Also competing at the venue was Ireland’s James Hogg who finished fifth in Saturday’s 1.45m aboard the Irish Sport Horse Intuitive when clear in 59.30 seconds.
