Havana Grey, star stallion at Whitsbury Manor Stud in England, will stand at a "private" fee in 2025.

The grey began his stud career at a fee of £8,000 and it came down to just £6,000 in his third and fourth seasons. Once his first runners began to win, his fee jumped to £18,500 in 2023 and almost trebled in 2024 to £55,000.

Now a nine-year-old, Havana Grey continued to enjoy plenty of success with his progeny this year, both on the track and in the sales ring. His best performers included Vandeek (placed third in the July Cup), Arabian Dusk (Group 2 winner), Elite Status (Group 3 winner) and Shouldvebeenaring (Group 3 winner).

Arabian Dusk was a 525,000gns breeze-up purchase, and in the recent Tattersalls October Book 1 Sale yearlings by Havana Grey fetched 500,000gns, 450,000gns, 420,000gns and 400,000gns.

On Tuesday Whitsbury Manor Stud issued a statement to say: "Although Havana Grey is still very much open for business for a restricted number of outside mares, we have decided to make his fee private. This is due to the importance of managing his mares to be of suitable height for him in the covering shed and for his own welfare and continued good fertility.

"After another fantastic year including 11 individual stakes winners and phenomenal yearling sale results, we know that demand for him will once again be high."

Showcasing's fee has been dropped by £10,000 to £35,000. He had 22 individual juvenile winners in 2024 and is broodmare sire of Group 1-winning two-year-old filly Lake Victoria.

Sergei Prokofiev made a fine start to his stud career and, in terms of winners and prize money, he is the leading European first season sire. His fee goes up from £6,000 to £8,000.

Dragon Symbol will remain at £8,000, having covered a full book of 140 mares in 2024.
