TWO point-to-point winners and a bumper winner are among the 23 horses added to next week’s two-day Goffs UK Doncaster January Sale catalogue. The sale starts on Tuesday with a session devoted to National Hunt yearlings and mares. Wednesday is dedicated to horses in training and point-to-pointers.
There is a new £100,000 bonus associated with the sale which will be paid out to connections of the first eligible horse sold at next week’s sale that wins any race at the 2023 or 2024 Cheltenham Festival. The bonus will be split with £50,000 paid to the vendor, £25,000 to the trainer and £25,000 to the owner(s). The most recent Festival winner to come out of this sale is Vanillier, who won a point-to-point at Dromahane before being sold at the January Sale and going on to win the Grade 1 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle in 2021.
Tuesday’s opening session features 35 National Hunt mares, headed by Grade 2 bumper winner The Glancing Queen and three-time listed winner Cap Soleil, who is in foal to Crystal Ocean.
The supplementary entries also include three more NH mares, an additional three horses-in-training from Gordon Elliott, taking his total draft in the sale to 10, as well as entries from David Pipe, Evan Williams, Jonjo O’Neill, Olly Murphy and Stuart Crawford.
