FIFTEEN stallions had their first yearlings catalogued this week at the Doncaster Premier Yearling Sale. Some of the highlights were, subject to at least one yearling selling for £40,000:

Earthlight (Shamardal) had one of the week’s highlights with the sale of Lot 84 to SackvilleDonald for £160,000. His eight yearlings all sold, his median was £70,000, and this was an excellent return for breeders who used the Kildangan Stud sire for €20,000 in his first season.

Starfield Stud’s Far Above (Farhh) had four yearlings sell for a median of £32,000, and Manor House Stables took home two of these, including a Tally Ho-consigned colt for £40,000. Far Above’s first fee was €6,000.

Richard Hughes spent £100,000 on WH Bloodstock’s son of dual Group 1-winning sprinter Hello Youmzain (Kodiac), and this was more than double the €45,000 he cost as a foal. Hello Youmzain stood his first season at Haras d’Etreham for €25,000.

Group 1 juvenile and classic winner Kameko (Kitten’s Joy) stands at Tweenhills and his first season at stud saw his fee set at £25,000. He had three yearlings in this week’s sale, all sold, two were purchased by Peter and Ross Doyle, with the other falling to Andrew Balding, and the median price for the trio was £85,000.

Best result

Going to Nunnery Stud in 2021 at a fee of £20,000, Group 1 Sussex Stakes winner Mohaather (Showcasing) had nine yearlings sell this week for an average of just over £50,000. Folland-Bowen Bloodstock celebrated their best result at the Doncaster Premier Yearling Sale with a Mohaather filly out of Blue Geranium selling to Johnny McKeever and Charlie Hills for £105,000.

Dalham Hall Stud’s Pinatubo (Shamardal) topped the second session with a colt for £180,000 and his second sale of the week was less than an hour later when another son realised £90,000. He stood for £35,000 in 2021.

With all but one of his 15 lots offered selling to a broad buying bench, the progeny of Sergei Prokofiev (Scat Daddy) proved popular. Robson Aguiar paid £82,000 for a colt from Glenvale Stud within the first hour of selling. A $1.1 million yearling and Group 3 two-year-old winner, Sergei Prokofiev stood his initial season for £6,500 at Whitsbury Manor Stud.

Yeomanstown Stud sold the top two lots by their own Shaman (Shamardal), getting £80,000 from Richard Ryan for a son of the Group 3 juvenile winner Bear Cheek.

All seven yearlings by Shaman sold, averaging just over £39,000, and he stood for €6,000 in year one.
