Many of these were geared up for last Saturday’s abandoned Curragh meeting. Donnacha O’Brien gave an upbeat mention to his newcomer Usdi Atohi in a recent At The Races stable tour and the Ten Sovereigns filly makes some appeal on paper. The €150,000 yearling is a sister to the same stable’s five-furlong listed winner at two, Asean, and gets a tentative nod.

Amo Racing and Adrian Murray haven’t been far away with most of their early two-year-old runners this season so California Dreamer needs respecting. The Mehmas filly cost 130,000gns as a yearling, and it ought to be a positive for her chances that David Egan rides her instead of the same connections’ course second Charanda. Cradle Of Love, representing Joseph O’Brien, also makes some appeal on paper and fetched €170,000 as a yearling.

SELECTION: USDI ATOHI

Senor Carrots was returning from 299 days off here last week when fourth in a six-furlong handicap and, provided the bounce factor doesn’t come into play, another strong showing should be on the cards. Andy Oliver’s six-year-old bolted up off a mark of 65 over today’s course and distance around this time last year, and then struggled back on the grass off marks in the mid to low 70s. Back down to 67 now and with his favoured blinkers reapplied, he should be bang there with normal improvement from his comeback effort.

Pro Bono Alexander has rocketed through the ratings from 56 to 71 after a hugely impressive win here three weeks ago and needs to prove she’s able to cope with that hike. She could still be on the improve, though. Jered Maddox has run 61 times in his career, winning over six furlongs last time, and this will be just his third start at five furlongs (respectable fourth and fifth on other two appearances at the distance).

It isn’t ideal that she hasn’t been seen for 212 days ahead of a sprint maiden around here but Vivienda gets a tentative vote to make the breakthrough at the third attempt. She showed ability when third in a pair of maidens at Naas, and hails from a Ger Lyons team in good nick at present. After a double on the opening day of the season at the Curragh, Lyons has hit the crossbar with four seconds and a third from his last 11 runners heading into yesterday evening’s card at Dundalk.

Andy Slattery is another handler with his string in a good place on the basis of a listed winner at Naas and a double at Cork to start the season. Ojw Legacy, third on both his starts, hinted at winning potential last season and can be involved at the business end. Oh So Bright has the advantage of a recent run for Jessica Harrington when fourth, beaten a length and a half, over six furlongs last month.

Mayfair was only narrowly touched off as 13/8 favourite for a Curragh maiden on her seasonal reappearance and should be tough to beat if taking to the all-weather on her first attempt at the surface. She shaped encouragingly on her only start at two when fourth to the high-class Pink Lily and is bred to be smart as a daughter of Justify and Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner Clemmie.

Juddmonte homebred Star Magnolia is a half-sister to Zarinsk, who was a Group 2 and Group 3-winning filly for Ger Lyons. This Kingman three-year-old is respected for the same connections. Other newcomers such as Super Sox (Paddy Twomey), Glen Princess (Johnny Murtagh) and Authenticate (Joseph O’Brien) offer some promise on paper.

Irish Rumour, who failed to get in as first reserve in the 6.10 at this track last night, has been frustrating for punters to follow but the consistent four-year-old might now get her turn now back in handicap company. A handy 5lb is claimed off her back by Adam Caffrey and, with a strong base of fitness under her from running through the winter, she looks worth trying again at the mile.

Chummie is another who might enjoy reverting to this distance, having had pace pressure over seven furlongs last time.

He’s usually ridden by claiming riders and now has the services of Billy Lee. Leabaland has been firing a few warning shots over the winter here and should be in the mix again.

An extremely open affair in which a chance is taken on Shining Aitch being able to follow up his win here from last week. The Tom McCourt-trained five-time winner went up 6lb for that recent success but James Ryan was unable to claim in that contest and is able to take off 5lb now.

Bride Tree and Bright Dick are other last-time-out winners worthy of consideration, while Cousin Shay is probably on a workable mark and and Keithen Kennedy’s 7lb claim will help his cause.

It’s tough to get away from Evening Blossom after a promising debut at the Curragh last autumn when third to the highly exciting Porters Place. That form looks particularly strong. Aidan O’Brien-trained runner-up Greenfinch won a maiden on her next start, as did the sixth-placed Wendla (Ger Lyons/Juddmonte) and seventh-placed Everlasting (Aidan O’Brien/Coolmore). Even the ninth, Anvika, finished second to Take Me To Church next time before winning a Dundalk maiden for Sheila Lavery.

Lady Doris made a decent debut here in October for Donnacha O’Brien and has the potential to improve this season as a half-sister to Realtra, who was better than ever when winning Group 3s at the age of five.

It’s interesting to see Ryan Moore has sided with Port Fairy, who was down the field in a Gowran maiden last October, over newcomer Opaque.

Huxley has the advantage of a recent run when second to the promising Agenda here 18 days ago, and his two-year-old form has a solid look to it too. A mark of 84 should be good enough to be bang there in a typical maiden of this level. The Galileo colt holds an Irish Derby entry.

Some improvement is required from his pair of runs at two but London City is bred to be better than we’ve seen so far, and to improve at three.

By Justify and out of four-time Group 1 winner Winter, he has a fair chance of operating on this surface and should appreciate the step up to this trip, though he hasn’t been seen since September.
