HORSE Racing Ireland is seeking to fill a new equine welfare position.

The role has been advertised as ‘Head of Equine Welfare’ and the successful applicant “will drive the development and promotion of Ireland’s Horse Racing and Breeding industries, through strict governance and the highest standards of integrity and welfare”.

Reporting into John Osborne, HRI’s equine welfare and bloodstock director, the new recruit will be responsible for driving “the equine welfare agenda within the thoroughbred racing industry.”

They will be tasked with developing and advocating “for policies that promote equine welfare at local, national and international level” and they will “develop and foster collaborative working relationships with key industry and external stakeholders to ensure that the equine welfare agenda is prominent.”
