WEXFORD Equestrian hosted the latest leg of the TRI Equestrian interschools league on Sunday last.

Proceedings started with the Primary schools’ team fun class, which was won in fine style by St Anne’s Rathangan National School, represented by Barney ridden by Gracie Kelly, Ollie and Freya Barry, Grace ridden by Molly Bates Doyle and Monkey and Annie Stafford. The team from Kiltealy NS, Banron Rocky and Jodi Brennan, Little Pumpkin and Lucy Brennan, Currabawn Minnie ridden by Bobby Bowe and Goldie partnered by Cathal Coleman, was second, with Rathangan White’s Houlio and Sarah Buggy, Maggie and Sadie Moran, Charlie Bear ridden by Sadbh Whelan and Blaze and Harriett Bolger in third. The two primary individual classes followed, with the win in the 55cm fun class going to Gracie Kelly on Willow, ahead of Mary Kate Kelly on both Shadow and Molly for Screen NS, who placed second and third respectively. The hotly contested 65cm to 75cm primary EII league class produced a win for Freya Barry riding Ollie for Rathangan, followed by Hazel Slattery from Kilrane riding Brooke Mist and Ruby Cousins on Bluebelle from Kilmore.

Next on the schedule was the EII Novice teams league class and local school, Loreto Wexford, represented by Bells Nugget ridden by Isabelle Walsh, Wex Gal and Amy Griffith, Wnda Toby ridden by Aoife Griffith and Ashfield Bouncer and Kate Walsh added another 10 points to their league score by winning the class. Round of the day goes to Aoife Griffith and Wnda Toby, who proved her stickability when nearly being unseated in the jump-off round, but managing to right herself to continue on and produce a clear to help the team claim the competition. Tullow Community School came second. Tullow was represented by Max ridden by Lauren Kehoe, Khalisi and Una Farrell, Lady Liath and Orla Dalton and Clonfin Lolalicious with Caoimhe Curran. Loreto Wexford’s other novice team was third, which means that the six points for third place pass to rivals Presentation Wexford. Remaining league points went to Borris VS, St Mary’s New Ross and Bridgetown VS. The novice 80cm class, open to both Primary and novice secondary pupils, produced a win for Jack Codd and Bally C Pip representing Piercestown NS, with Blake Kavanagh and Cherry from Taghmon in second and Tommy and Michael Sinnott from Murrintown in third.

Casey Shiels on Silver Dip from Bridgetown won the Open league class at the latest leg of the TRI Equestrian interschools league

The always well-supported Equieire 90cm novice class had a number of already qualified athletes competing, which opened up qualifying places for those in the minor placings. The winner of the class, Tricklebrook Jaguar and Mia Meyler had already qualified at a previous Loreto Wexford-hosted event. Conor Cusack riding Krafty Tim in second riding for St Declan’s thus received the first qualifying place in the competition. Dearbhla Sheehan and Montezuma from Borris, who is already qualified, was third.

The main business of the day then commenced, with the TRI Equestrian Open team league event. This produced a fine win for the team from St Mary’s New Ross of Cash Advance and Martha Power, Smooth Passin Sarco and Ciara Sinnott, Tomello ridden by Katie Costello and Junipierre partnered by Ava Donovan, ahead of Skylanna Scatman ridden by Lilly Mai Berry, Redshire Molly and Kate Walsh, Rushin Rocket and Jessie Murphy and Shakespeare Romeo Montague and Cora Finn representing Loreto Wexford. Presentation Wexford’s Sia, ridden by Eva Mulligan, Cody and Mia Meyler, Sally Grey ridden by Maggie Willet and Chloes Fantasy and Ruby Reville was third.

The TRI Equestrian Open league class was claimed by Casey Shiels on Silver Dip from Bridgetown, ahead of Tommy Codd from St. Peter’s College riding Cheyenne. Third place went to his sibling, Joe Codd riding Indie from the same school.

Kate Walsh and Redshire Molly riding for Loreto Wexford won the TRI Premier 110 class at the latest leg of the TRI Equestrian interschools league

Finally, the TRI Premier 110 class produced some excellent riding and first place was claimed by Kate Walsh and Redshire Molly riding for Loreto Wexford. Harry Barton from Rockwell College on Ceann Dearg was runner-up, with Hannah O’Neill on Drummin Pretty Lady in third.

There is a correction to last week’s Broadmeadow Open Individual results. Whilst the winner Katie Duignan was indeed correct, a gremlin managed to mix up the rest of the results. Hannah O’Neill on Drummin Pretty Lady was in fact second, with Cici Murray and Keogan’s Boy in third and Ella Duignan on Wyndham Miss Ellie in fourth.

There are two TRI Equestrian Interschools events this weekend. The team from Boswell are running today, Saturday, February 17th, and Ower Equestrian in Co Galway are hosting an event tomorrow (Sunday).
