NEWBRIDGE College had a clean sweep of the TRI Equestrian Interschools league competitions at Broadmeadow last Sunday. The College took the win in the open teams to claim a valuable 10 points and College riders took the first four places in the Open Individuals.

The team consisted of Prince (Eva O’Neill), Golden Copper (Bonnie O’Neill) Kilmovee Bridal Excess (Louise Maguire) and Castle Strange Misty Boy (Annie O’Neill) and, while Bonnie, Annie and Louise took second, third and fourth in the Individuals, the top honour went to fellow pupil Emily O’Neill riding Zothen’s Nobel.

Gorey Community School represented by Misha B (Holly Spencer), Kyle Lad (Lauren Spencer) and Abbeybrooke Aurora (Angelica McGee) claimed the runner-up spot in the open teams. Local school Ashbourne Community School was third. The Ashbourne team was Carnaby Mickey (Aimee Walsh), Owenriff River (Hannah Lynam), Milly (Saoirse Kiernan) and Future Sky Trend (Leland Burtenshaw).

Newbridge did not have it all their own way and could only claim fourth in the EII novice teams, where the red rosettes went to the on-form team from St Peter’s College Dunboyne. The team was Dunboyne Inchydoney (Lily Knapp), San Francisco Clover (Jeorjia Knapik), Tubbervale Misty Boy (Cora Hannon), and Slane Twinkle star (Emily Michael).

St Gerard’s Bray claimed second place ahead of Holy Family Secondary school in third. St Gerard’s was represented by Arraghbeg Honey (Nina Boydell), Cluain Johnson Grey (Sanna Rankin), Domino Dan (Ali Condren), and Chesterfield Erin Curtis (Darby Condren); and the Holy Family Secondary School team consisted of Clogheen Rupe (Faye Dunne), Curragh Rae Hero (Grainne Cooney), and (Glenhill Purdy (Abi Plunkett).

The popular Equieire EII 90cm qualifier was won by Rocket Celt (Jessica Kinsella) for Loreto Abbey Dalkey with Heidi (Ellen O’Neill) from Newbridge College in second, ahead of Chesterfield Erin Curtis (Darby Condren) from St. Gerard’s, Domino Dan (Ali Condren).

The Novice Individuals fun event, which was open to novice secondary school and primary pupils, was won by Tubber Boy (Ruby Smullen) from Newbridge College with Chesterfield Erin Curtis (Darby Condren) of St. Gerard’s in second and Jedi Skywalker (Ryan O’Neill) from Tyrrellspass St Annes NS in third.

Finally, the primary Individuals was shared between Dolly (Anna Curry) from Scoil Diarmada Senior Primary School, Castledermot Kielduff Glory (Zoe Boydell) - Educate Together – Greystones, (Diamond Sunshine) Claudia O’Neill - St Anne’s NS, Tyrrellspass and Glacier express (Ailbhé Reilly) - Dunboyne Primary School.
