1.40 Irish Stallion Farms EBF (C&G) Maiden 7f

Karakoul has some very strong form for this grade, so should get off the mark at the fourth attempt. A fair debut effort was followed by an excellent Killarney second, in which he split too future blacktype colts.

A recent fifth at the Curragh has also worked out well, with those in behind advertising the form in subsequent runs. This represents an ideal opportunity for the Aga Khan-owned colt to lose his maiden status.

Schiele made a pleasing debut at Fairyhouse last June, before running a similar race on his second start the following month. He would need to improve a bit on that bare form but has a winter under his belt and is in good hands.

SELECTION: KARAKOUL

Shamiyana would be a stronger fancy if she hadn’t disappointed at Dundalk last time. However, a combination of the faster surface and step up to 10f may not have suited the Dermot Weld-trained filly.

Back down to a mile, switching to turf, she should be competitive if able to overcome a very wide draw. A quick break is essential but if Donagh O’Connor can get her away, she looks the most likely winner.

Kirati Beach has to be respected given trainer Paddy Twomey’s excellent strike rate. An unraced daughter of Kodi Bear, she is well berthed in stall six and wouldn’t have to be anything out of the ordinary to make a winning debut.

SELECTION: SHAMIYANA

Coins Cross, who made a promising reappearance when third at Leopardstown earlier this month, can get his head in front.

A Sligo maiden winner last year, this tight right-handed track should suit the Harty runner perfectly.

Expect to see him hold a prominent position from his inside draw, before staying on strongly up the straight.

Navagio ran better than his final placing when fourth in the Madrid Handicap last time. The winner of that race has already struck at listed level, so it would be no surprise to see plenty of winners emerge from that contest.

Although it is still early in the season to expect the three-year-olds to compete with their elders, this Johnny Murtagh-trained gelding could be well handicapped.

Notforalongtime could be good enough to give Laura Hourigan her first win as a trainer. The former Clive Cox-trained gelding would appear to prefer a sound surface, so the weather should be monitored.

However, the five-year-old tends to run fresh and ran a big race when last seen in a competitive 7f handicap at Dundalk. He has previously won on turf and a mile seems his optimum distance.

Plunkett landed a nice gamble for Paul Flynn at Gowran Park recently but has since been reassessed by the handicapper.

Much of the 9lb hike has been offset here with the trainer’s daughter taking off a valuable 7lb. The gelding is well drawn and should be involved.

Admiralty Place, who finished just behind a subsequent winner, when third on his stable debut should be good enough.

That looked a particularly strong maiden at the time and with a couple of those in behind the selection having also come out and franked the form since, the run can be upgraded.

With a nice inside draw, the Jessica Harrington-trained gelding should shed his maiden tag.

Needle Lace undoubtedly has ability but gives the impression she isn’t straightforward.

The application of a first-time hood here is interesting, as it could make a huge difference if having the desired effect.

Business is an intriguing runner here given that he is so well handicapped on turf. However, there is an obvious concern as to whether he can replicate his excellent Dundalk form on grass.

Now rated 89 on the all-weather, he resumes here off just 82, with his jockey taking off an additional 3lbs. If he can adapt to turf, then he will take all the beating.

Spanish Tenor, who returned to form with an impressive display at Naas last time, has to be a leading contender.

The Ado McGuiness-trained veteran has won off similar marks in the past and is also a course and distance winner at this venue.

Supagirl may be able to make it back-to-back wins having made a winning reappearance at Navan recently. The Jessica Harrington-trained filly made all the running on that occasion, staying on strongly up the hill.

She is likely to appreciate the extra furlong she encounters here and with her previous win having received a boost subsequently, she looks the one to beat.

Minister Of War could be well treated off 84 on his handicap debut. The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt was sent off at single-digit odds on all three maiden starts and showed definite ability on each occasion.

Stepping up in trip in this lesser grade could well see the son of Churchill in a better light.

SELECTION: SUPAGIRL

Fair Damsel should appreciate the step up in trip having shaped with plenty of promise when keeping on over 9f last time.

A daughter of Placere, who was a winner over this trip and further, she got going late when making late ground at Leopardstown on her handicap debut. With the benefit of that experience and an additional 2f, she should be good enough to make her presence felt.

Scalor improved on Dundalk efforts when second on turf at Gowran Park last time. A winning hurdler, he is nicely treated on the flat and should win races this season.
