Mount Nelson succumbs to leg infection
POPULAR stallion Mount Nelson has died after a prolonged battle with lymphangitis. The Boardsmill Stud stallion had suffered from the condition for the past number of years, including when standing at Newsells Park Stud in England.
Stud manager John Flood reported: “His condition worsened significantly this spring and it resulted in him missing the second half of the covering season. Mount Nelson showed great battling qualities through these last few months, but despite the best efforts of the team at Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital, and the whole team here at Boardsmill, the condition progressively worsened throughout the year and ultimately our efforts to save him were in vain.”
An Eclipse Stakes winner for Aidan O’Brien, Mount Nelson (by Rock of Gibraltar) has sired 47 stakes performers including Group 1-winning sprinter Librisa Breeze and Stayers’ Hurdle hero Penhill.
