WILLIE Mullins is usually associated with buying sales-toppers, but adopted the role of leading consignor at the ThoroughBid June Sale, where his three offerings commanded the highest prices of the online auction.

Blacktype hurdler What Path led proceedings, selling to jockey-turned-agent Jerry McGrath for £27,000. The winner of a bumper and twice of hurdles, the seven-year-old son of Coastal Path was last seen finishing third on his first start over fences.

It was Rebecca Menzies and Ursa Major Racing’s new recruit We’llhavewan that Patrick Mullins considered the bargain of the sale, saying: “He’s the sort of horse that could easily be competitive in some of those valuable staying chases and maybe get to Cheltenham as a Pertemps horse.”

The nine-year-old, who won a valuable hurdle at Navan in December and later finished second in the Listed Grand National Trial at Punchestown, sold for £11,000.

Completing the Closutton trio was the lightly-raced Cadoudal Saint, who rejoins Gerald Quinn at a cost of £9,000. The Ballymena trainer knows the grey well, having saddled him to make a winning debut in a five-year-old maiden last February. Subsequently purchased privately by Mullins, he finished third in a bumper and disappointed on his two starts over hurdles.

A total of 18 horses were catalogued for the sale and nine found buyers.
