THIS striking sculpture of a thoroughbred flailing on its back is currently on display at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) in Dublin. Entitled Stallion, the piece was created by Irish artist Daphne Wright.
In the Sunday Business Post last weekend IMMA director Annie Fletcher said this work was her personal favourite among the more than 100 exhibits in the ‘Art as Agency’ collection.
She explained: “From a distance, Stallion is a glorious thoroughbred, rolling on the ground with abandon. It conforms to all of the traditional language of sculpture, such as white marble and equestrian subject matter. How many grand public sculptures have we all encountered of handsome horses mounted by great historical figures?
“This particular magnificent creature writhes on the ground ... captured in a wild moment of its demise. What a piece. What an artist.”
