IRISH eventer Lucy Latta is set to judge this year’s best turned out horse in the BoyleSports Irish Grand National on Monday at Fairyhouse Racecourse. The title sponsor is supporting the turn out prize to the tune of €1,000.
Lucy’s cousin, Robbie Power, was the winning jockey when Our Duke won the BoyleSports Irish Grand National in 2017, but she’s been handed the unenviable task of picking a winner from the grooming craft on display before this year’s horses line up for the big race.
Ahead of the best turned out competition, Latta said: “This is a terrific initiative by BoyleSports and a great nod to the unsung heroes for the effort they put in to make these horses look so magnificent. They really do pull out all the stops, especially for such a big race, so I’m looking forward to seeing their ingenuity on show come Easter Monday.”
To inspire creativity, BoyleSports has curated a special ‘pamper hamper’ of aids to fuel the imagination of stable staff, which includes stencils, blue glitter hoof oil, chalk combs, coloured bands and expert tips and tricks to elevate grooming games in the lead up to the big race on Easter Monday at Fairyhouse. And there’ll also be some carrots and polos included for all the four-legged stars.
