THE Mark O’Hanlon Memorial Quiz took place last Tuesday night at the new venue of Gowran Park Racecourse and was well-attended, with plenty of the sharpest brains in the industry out to secure bragging rights.
Having been postponed for a week due to the death of Michael O’Sullivan, it was lighter on UK attendees as a result, but the Irish National Stud students turned up in force and it made for a competitive event.
Eoin Fives, Charles Weld, Declan Foy and Shane Power were back to defend their title for Ballylinch Stud, but had to settle for second place, a point behind the former multiple winners, Bobby O’Ryan, ‘Mouse’ O’Ryan, Ger Connolly and Ryan McElligott.
A score of 87 was very impressive given the tricky nature of lots of the questions set by Ballyhane’s Joe Foley, with Kevin O’Ryan as MC on the night.
In third place was a team consisting of Tony Mullins, Mick Fitzpatrick, John Hanley and Peter Vaughan.
A very enjoyable occasion, with Gowran providing a banquet of food.
