THERE was a great turnout of jockeys and trainers for the Polo in the Park Afternoon Tea Party in Dublin’s Phoenix Park last Sunday.

Organised by Derville Meade and Ashling Kilduff (Curated by Design Centre, Kildare Village), the event drew four teams from racing. In the first chukka, jockeys Rachael Blackmore, Gary Carroll and Pat Taaffe faced trainers Sarah Lynam, Tony Martin and Andy McNamara.

Game two saw former jockey Nina Carberry team up with Colin Keane and Sam Ewing against trainers Ado McGuinness, Gavin Cromwell and Tony Mullins.

Asked to pick out the stars, Derville said: “They were all very good. Rachael scored twice and I think Sam Ewing did as well. Of the trainers, Ado and Andy impressed.”

The event raised funds for Irish Injured Jockeys and the top lot in the charity auction was a round of golf at The K Club with A.P. McCoy, which was bought by racehorse owner Philip Polly.

Among the sponsors and suppliers were Kildare Village, Bective Stud, Bottega Gold, Keelings, The Designed Table, Avoca and Ratoath café As You Like It.
