Hotazhell proved his class, grit and stamina when providing Jessica Harrington with her second success in the Group 2 Montane Developments Beresford Stakes at the Curragh.

The Tyros Stakes victor separated Henri Matisse and subsequent Group 1 winner Scorthy Champ last time out, and was sent off 2/1 joint-favourite on Saturday under Shane Foley. The bay took close order behind the leaders in the field of five, and was pushed along from the three furlong marker. He began to run on well from the two pole, gained a narrow lead a furlong later and dug deep to deny the Joseph O’Brien-trained Tennessee Stud by three parts of a length, as British raider and joint-favourite Windlord took third.

“He was always going to tough it out,” said the winning trainer. “He's a good horse. He'll probably go for the Futurity Trophy, that looks the logical next step as he stays the mile very well, he gets every yard of it.

“I'm delighted for Bonnie and Tommy Hamilton, who own him; that that's the Silverton Hill partnership, and they're the ones that owned Pathfork before.”

The dual Group winner was bought by his trainer at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale from Eddie Linehan’s Lackendarra Stables for 200,000gns. The son of Too Darn Hot was bred by Imad Alsagar’s Blue Diamond Stud, who own Harrington’s Goffs 500 fifth Nancy J. Read our preview of their first Goffs Orby consignment here.
