Darley moves French stallions

DARLEY has stopped standing stallions at its Haras du Logis base in France and will instead move its French-based stallions to independent farms.

Victor Ludorum will stand at Haras d’Etreham and Cloth Of Stars will stand at Haras de Montaigu. Both will remain under the Darley banner.

Sam Bullard, Godolphin director, said: “We are very excited to enter into new partnerships with Haras d’Etreham and Haras de Montaigu and look forward to enjoying many more successes with these stallions in the coming years. France is an important region within the thoroughbred breeding and racing industry and we hope to continue the many fruitful relationships we have established with French breeders over the years.

“We have enjoyed a long and successful association with Haras du Logis and would like to thank the entire team, particularly Julian Ince, for all their help and support over the years.”

Danny Dunne fined €2,500

DANNY Dunne was fined €2,500 after being found guilty on two charges by the Referrals Committee this week.

Dunne, partner of trainer Katy Brown, attempted to gain entry to integrity areas at both the Curragh and Cork last October and was verbally abusive to a racing official on one of those occasions.

Taking into account that Dunne had been reported to the authorities for similar rule breaches in the past, the Referrals Committee issued the fine. Dunne apologised for his actions and told the Committee this would not happen again.

Riders win appeals

THREE riders have won appeals against suspensions.

Jamie Powell had a 20-day suspension for careless riding at Ballinrobe overturned. Evidence given by Powell, Declan McDonogh and Ronan Whelan influenced the Committee’s decision.

J.J. Slevin avoided an eight-day suspension for the same offence at Limerick, while Andrew Slattery successfully appealed against a four-day ban imposed at Limerick for careless riding.

THE Irish Horse Welfare Trust in Wicklow will stage its open day on Saturday, August 3rd and you are invited to go along. It will run from 11am to 4pm with lots on offer including guided tours, games, music, a dog show and refreshments. Pets are welcome too.

Open day visitors will have the opportunity to meet rescue horses and ponies along with some retiring racehorses, including the legendary Sizing Europe and the ‘magical’ Curly the Unicorn who was once a resident rescue himself.
