After the resounding success of the Foal Sale the Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale followed suit on Friday and Saturday by producing a strong set of returns that had the company expressing its delight with proceedings at Kildare Paddocks this week.

A top price of €790,000 over the two days and a truly tremendous input from Zhang Yuesheng and his representative Michael Donohoe played their part in the sale’s aggregate coming in at €16.5 million which was a 2% progression on last year.

The average price of €55,560 finished 27% ahead of 2021 while the median progressed from €20,000 to €24,000. The clearance for this year’s smaller catalogue dropped to 79% and while this sale was an undoubted success today’s second session did illustrate that it is tough going for those that find themselves at the lower end of the market.

A week that contained more than its share of highs ended on a quiet note on Saturday with a low-key concluding session which produced a top price of €75,000 which was paid by Dundalk-based Brian Jones for Hightown Heights. This filly was picked up for €12,000 from a Dundalk claimer by James McAuley 13 months and has since won twice while she received a significant boost to her pedigree when her half-sister Thanks Monica reached the frame in the Listed Oyster Stakes a couple of months ago.

The day’s second highest price was paid by Cochese Bloodstock for Munajaah who hailed from The Castlebridge Consignment. This Dubawi mare was sold in foal to Kodi Bear while she is an unraced daughter of the high class Mashoora whose time on the track yielded wins in the Group 2 Prix de la Porte Maillot and the Group 3 Prix Imprudence.

A trip across the Irish Sea is the plan for the Galileo mare It’s My Pleasure after she was snapped up by Mickley Stud for €36,000. This eight-year-old was sold by Islanmore Stud and she is in foal to Holy Roman Emperor.

Silken Ladder, a useful dual winner for Joe Murphy this summer, cost Hurworth Bloodstock €33,0000. The daughter of No Nay Never is out of a half-sister to the Australian Group 1 winner Magic Hurricane.
