LITTLE Big Bear could give the Arqana August Yearling Sale the perfect boost by winning the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh today (Saturday).

Coolmore picked up Little Big Bear for €320,000 at this sale last year. The son of No Nay Never is regarded by many commentators as the season’s leading juvenile seen out so far, having won the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Group 3 Anglesey Stakes at the Curragh.

Last Monday’s impressive Naas winner Denmark was another Arqana purchase, having been bought by Coolmore for €440,000 at last year’s October Yearling Sale in Deauville.

This year’s three-day August Yearling Sale starts on Saturday, August 13th, in Deauville.

‘Version 2’ of the sale has been moved to September, so the premier sale now stands alone and will be complemented by the Group 1 Prix Jacques le Marois card at Deauville on Sunday. Monday’s card features the Group 2 Prix Guillaume d’Ornano.

There are 313 yearlings in this year’s catalogue and all three days will offer the same quality of yearlings. Selling starts at 2pm on the Saturday and at 5.30pm on both Sunday and Monday (after racing).

Among the international stallions represented in the catalogue are Adlerflug, Arrogate, Camelot, Churchill, Dark Angel, Dubawi, Frankel, Galileo, Galiway, Justify, Kingman, Kodiac, Lope De Vega, New Bay, Night Of Thunder, No Nay Never, Sea The Stars, Shamardal, Siyouni, War Front, Wootton Bassett and Zarak.

Almost a quarter of the yearlings offered are siblings to blacktype winners, with 17 of these brothers or sisters to Group 1 winners.

First crop stallions with progeny on offer include Advertise, Blue Point, Calyx, City Light, Land Force, Magna Grecia, Ten Sovereigns, Too Darn Hot, Waldgeist and Yoshida.
