THERE were so many family stories emerging from the 2023 Dublin Horse Show, none more so than the number of siblings competing in the show jumping classes. In Saturday afternoon’s H5 Sport Horses-sponsored Dublin Stakes, two Allen brothers finished in first and fourth places.

Bertram won the jump-off class when he guided Edison de Hus (Conrad x Galoubet du Rouet) to the win in a time of 33.39 as one of only four double clears.

Ireland’s Daniel Coyle took the runner-up place aboard Ariel Grange’s stallion Gisborne VDL (VDL Zirocco Blue x Goodtimes), who is heading to the FEI European Championships in Milan next week, in 33.50.

Comdt Geoff Curran and his recent Premier Series Grand Prix winner, The Minister for Defence’s Glengarra Wood (Capitalist x Cavalier Clover Lad) finished in third in 34.85, while Harry Allen and Iron Lady Van de Zuuthoeve (Thunder Vd Zuuthoeve x Darco) were fourth in 35.07.

Spain’s Eduardo Álvarez Aznar, riding d’Orient Batilly took fifth as the fastest four falter, and Ireland’s Jack Ryan and Michel Spaas/Jos Lansink Horses’ stallion Catch Me Van Berkenbroeck (Cicero Van Paemel x Nonstop) were sixth.
