LORETO Wexford ran a well-supported TRI Equestrian Interschools league show last Sunday in Wexford Equestrian.

Loreto was well-rewarded for the day, when their Open team saw off all the challengers to take the red rosettes in the TRI Equestrian Open teams competition. Loreto was represented by Amy Griffith riding Wex Gal, Kate Walsh on Redshire Molly, Isabell Walsh with Bells Nugget and Sarah Cousins on Hardy Glass Flo.

Last week’s winners, St Mary’s New Ross, were runners-up by a slim margin. Ava Donovan on Redhouse April Pearl, Katie Costello and Tomello, Milchem Havana and Eva Kent and Martha Power with Autumn represented St Mary’s.

St Mary’s New Ross also took third place with its other team, which was Laura Neville on Coolafinka Queen, Mia Kent and Queen’s Cornet, Aoife Cummins on Ahabrook Storm and Hannah Kate Crosbie and Magic. Good Counsel College, Bridgetown and Gorey CS/ Presentation Wexford were fourth, fifth and sixth. The final league point on offer went to Presentation in seventh.

In the TRI Equestrian Open Individual class, Lucy and Sophie Rhatigan placed first and second. Lucy rode Ballyfore Lola for Gael Scoil na Mara. Bertragh Boy Beauty was Sophie’s mount and they represented Glenart College. Loreto Wexford’s Amy Griffith on Wex Gal took third place. The remaining places went to Hannah Rose Roche, Hazel Slattery and Keira Crowther.

The final open class of the day was the TRI Equestrian Premier 1.10m. Noah Sinnott Murphy from Bridgetown College took the first qualifying spot on offer, when Bree Hill Superstar produced the best time. Jess Murphy on Ashfield Bouncer for Loreto Wexford was second, ahead of Borris Vocational College’s Rosemary Dundon on Ah To Be Sure. Fourth and fifth went to Kate Walsh on Killinick Sky and Darragh O’Brien and Ironhill Shooting Star. Walsh’s second mount Redshire Molly took the remaining qualifying spot.

The Equieire 90cm Novice qualifier was well-supported and Mollie Bates Doyle riding Gracie for Bridgetown College posted the fastest time to take the first qualifying spot. Coppenagh Comet, ridden by Hannah Hennessy Murphy from St Mary’s New Ross, was second. Gorey Community School’s Michelle Murphy riding Anvil Lady was third. Remaining places went to Robyn Fitzgerald, Leah Murphy and Isabelle Byrne.

Local win

The Hopoti Novice teams’ class had 13 teams battling it out for league points. First place was claimed by the team from the host school Loreto Wexford, just as Loreto’s open team had claimed the open team class. This time, Loreto was represented by Freya Barry, Ruby Cousins, Faye Howlin and Sarah Petitt riding Churchland’s Liberty, Trickey Stephen D, Jumping Dale Peanut and Ballyyerk Lover. Keeping up its good form, Tullow Community School, Lauren Bailey on Prodigal Son, Lauren Kehoe riding Lumcloon Max, Una Farrell and Khaleesi Stormborn and Caoimhe Curran on Clinton Lolalicious, were runners up, ahead of St Mary’s New Ross in third place. St Mary’s was represented by Pogolicious and Clodagh Murphy, Hannah Hennessy Murphy on Coppenagh Comet, Raven and Mai Donovan and Swan view Cream of Dexter and Kate Kavanagh.

The mixed team of Carnew and Loreto were fourth. Bridgeton College took fifth, with Ramsgrange in sixth. The final league point was awarded to Presentation Wexford. The Hopoti Novice 80cm class followed and this was won by Freya Barry riding Churchland’s Liberty for Loreto Wexford. Raven and Mai Donovan for St. Mary’s New Ross were second, ahead of Anna Curry on Walter for Scoil Diarmuida.

The EII Primary 75cm league class was won by Curraghmore Sparrow, ridden by Shannon Griffith for Screen NS. This is Shannon’s third win of the series. The fun primary teams class went the way of the team from Kiltealy NS. Bobby Bowe, Lottie Bates, Lucy Brennan and Cathal Coleman riding Tinchy Strider, Soaring Susie, Little Pumpkin and Castle Ellis Tina represented Kiltealy.

There was also a fun 55cm class on the day, which was won by Mary Kate Kelly from Screen NS riding Mollie. And an Aloga-sponsored primary 90cm class, which saw the red rosette being presented to Ballinaguilkey Rocco, ridden by Sarah Ryan for Scoil Naomh Brid.

Action moves west this weekend, when St Paul’s Oughterard hosts the event in Ower Equestrian Centre and a full range of classes are on offer.
