I imagine we are going to try for the King George that’s going to be his early season. And then we’ll see how that goes. I haven’t spoken to Cheveley Park yet, they might want to spilt their options. He has a couple of options, to start off I think the Clonmel Oil. A lot will depend on the ground. Then there’s the Durkan as we did last year, might be too near for this year. And I think there’s a race in England which is something we don’t normally do but we’ll see.

At the moment he’s in good form, we’ll have him ready for action by the time the Clonmel Oil comes around.

She’ll go over fences this year. Fine, big strong mare, I think she’s one that anyone would be looking forward to going over fences this year. She’s a bit behind the others I think she just took a growth; she looks after herself well.

She went to where she didn’t go to Cheltenham so she just had a small setback but nothing untoward, just missed the last quarter of the season.

We’ll go novice chasing and start him off whenever the ground comes right and when he’s right. I imagine the sort of speed he showed over hurdles it doesn’t really matter to me whether he starts going two or two and a half. We’ll just wait for him and for the right race to come along.

I imagine he will be aiming towards the Arkle. Wouldn’t surprise me if he ended up as in, what do you call it, the Turner race now? It wouldn’t surprise me if he went into two and a half miles, I’ve no doubt he would have no problem with three miles but he’s very sharp at the shorter trip.

If he can jump fences the way he jumps hurdles, you know I could see him being an Arkle horse.

He eventually got to win the [hunter] chase! So I think we’ll do a similar route that I did to last year. I like to start him early and give him plenty of practice.

He just seems to need lots of racing, he races very lazily as you saw in Cheltenham, he had no chance of a third last and then he got into the race and just got up. So that will be his aim again this year.

Brandy Love is not back yet, she’s in pre-training. She is one we are going to aim straight for the Mares’ Hurdle, rather than go chasing with her. I’m happy enough to stay hurdling, her form last year winning in Fairyhouse beating Harry Fry’s mare must put her in the favourite Cheltenham for the Mares’ Hurdle.

Left is a lot easier for her, won’t be looking for right-handed races but sometimes you just can’t help it, you got to go right-handed if it’s the right race. She seems to be very keen to just stay on a left-handed track.

Chacun Pour Soi is in great order. We’ve always just kept him to two miles because he was such a big jumper. I think at this stage in his career I’m going to maybe go out and trip with him, see can we make more use of him going two and a half or two and three-quarters, even three miles, I’m just going to be more adventurous with his trips this year.

He had a very hard race in Cheltenham, he looks the type that should be a really good novice chaser, his style of jumping, his style of racing you would look at him being a top two-mile novice chaser.

Once again, he’s a big horse, so we will wait until the ground is really right for him.

So that’s where we will start and he will go down the two-mile route I think and whether we go to Ascot this year or not I don’t know. Facile Vega has to be one of the most exciting for the last few years. I haven’t seen a horse that I’m looking forward to as much as Facile Vega.

Trying to keep him sound, he’s been very sound and very good. He will go novice hurdling, he showed at bumpers, he’d be a Supreme Novice horse and with his pedigree he can go out to be a Ballymore horse.

My whole aim this year is to try and not train him, I have David Porter riding him and I keep telling David, don’t let me work him too hard. You know, I think he doesn’t need to be worked very hard. I think we just get all his conditioning work into him and I think he will be fine. We’ll get him away over hurdles as soon as we get nice ground. He’s like his mother, a natural, so I don’t have any problems.

Flame Bearer is a nice new recruit from Pat Doyle. He was very good over hurdles at the second half of the season. He’s a fine big chasing type, has plenty of stamina to win over the longer trips. I imagine with his style of racing we’ll probably be aiming him towards the shorter trips and see how things go.

He’s very forward going, and Jack Doyle was riding him last year and he always sort of kept him in pocket and I can see now why because the horse is very forward. He wants to get on with his job and it was the best way to settle him. He can be difficult to ride, but I think it will settle him down.

Ferny, we will go chasing with him, really looking forward to him as well. He has been tough to keep sound. So far so good with him and we will be looking at what they call intermediate chases over Grade 2 and 3, until we have to do category 1, just to get him more experienced.

I hope he’s our Gold Cup horse for the year. He looks the part; he is doing everything right at home. Had one little setback a couple of weeks ago, but he’s back doing everything right again. But that’s just horses, they all have setbacks.

The Durkan, I’d like to start him off there but it’s the 11th of December this year, which is quite near Christmas. I’m always worried about the ground at Leopardstown, but he had a run around Leopardstown twice I think and been fine. But he’s a big horse, he doesn’t look it and that’s what I like about him. I love horses that are tall and don’t look it because they are so well proportioned.

He’s light on his feet. I’d like to get a run into him early December like Christmas then but we’ll see what way it happens.

He’s not been seen since New Year’s Day, he was very impressive wasn’t he, that day. So he is a horse of a huge engine, huge horse as well. Hard to keep right. But we will go down those Grade 2 and 3 season novice chases, stay away maybe from the top grade until we get a few runs under his belt and get him going. But he could be anything going to Cheltenham as well.

That’s what I had in my head all the time [leaning to staying over hurdles with him], then the last few weeks I’m thinking, you know maybe we should go chasing with him.

We are looking at the staying hurdle picture, and the reason we might stay over hurdles with him is because it looks quiet enough I think, he would be in the top three of the stay at hurdles.

But he’s a fine horse, he jumps very well. We had schooled him well over fences last year, we were very happy with him. He had an issue with his back I think three years ago, that was one of the reasons that we stayed hurdling with him, we had him schooled over fences last year to go chasing and then he got a bit of a niggle. We were all set to go novice chasing with him last year and then he had a small setback and we said right let’s just go down the stay at hurdle route.

But he’s one that I haven’t fully made up my mind about yet. I might give him another pop over fences and see how that goes and then think about it. But I imagine he’s going to be a staying novice chaser.

I’m hoping that I get him out this season. It’s going to be the second half of the season and even the last quarter. I think if I can get him out for Cheltenham well and good but I think it’s more realistic option would be after Cheltenham maybe somewhere after that.

I’m going to go very steady with him, we are going to go very slow with him and see what happens.

He’s very keen over his fences. He’s not the biggest horse in the world, he’s a horse that I could go back over hurdles with. Even though he’s keen I have in the back of my mind that I’m going to try him at much longer trips and get him to settle. Maybe ride him differently.

We’ve been very positive with him over fences and he was enjoying it but not sure that he’s made for jumping fences at the level I want him to jump fences. So, I’m going to back over hurdles with him maybe for a few runs and see what happens.

I have a few horses the likes of Sir Gerhard, I’m not sure where I’m going with them, but I’m going to have a good chat with the owners. When he won his maiden hurdle, I thought he shaped like a Champion Hurdle horse.

He has won a point-to-point so he obviously can do chasing, I was a bit disappointed with him with a couple of runs over hurdles. He missed out hurdles, and at the start of the season I thought I was going to do novice chasing with him, but the more I look at the hurdle picture, I’m tempted to stay over hurdles with him, but once again I’ve got to speak to connections and see what their views are.

We have a few, there’s pros and cons and my team at home here are spilt on him as well. Some say we’ll go novice chasing - we can always go novice chasing and come back over hurdles.

But definitely, I haven’t ruled him out of a Champion Hurdle bid.

Stattler won the National Hunt Chase, he wouldn’t immediately spring to mind to you as a Gold Cup horse. But I’m probably going to try and have that aim. He’ll be a good one for Ronnie Bartlett with Galvin.

We know he goes around the track, we know he is able to jump, he’s able to stay, and you know a lot more to be done between now and March. So we will be keeping him, we will be aiming along that Gold Cup route. Where he ends up who knows, he could be a Grand National horse.

We thought he was going to be a nice novice chaser, chatting to Paul and Patrick - one of those is in two minds. He’s third favourite for the Champion Hurdle, certainly easier to keep him sound for that and that family improve with age, so he’s one we have to have a chat with our connections about as well.

I had him and Sir Gerhard pencilled in as novice chasers at the start of the season but as we get nearer our kick-off point I’m beginning to question whether we should have a look at the Champion Hurdle with these horses.

I think he has the quality to be a Champion Hurdle horse. But if he’s good enough to win it or not? He certainly could line up in one, the way he won at Cheltenham. And I think he’s a horse we haven’t seen the very best of at all yet.

We could see him at Naas, that’s the obvious starting point for him. He has penalties there, he’s also going to get an entry into the Morgiana and it’s going to be a tougher race in the Morgiana but I think maybe I might just start him there, may as well find out early where he’s going in against the older horses

It’s a step up for him, it’s always tough for a horse to come out of the novice season to start off in a race like that, but if we think he’s going to be a Champion Horse, maybe that’s where we should start off.

Zarak The Brave is another one that is schooling well at the moment probably come out around Christmas time all being well, a late three-year-old.

Unfortunately The Nice Guy is out for the season in the last couple of days. He has a problem behind, which is going to take a couple of months to come right.

It’s a big disappointment but I don’t think The Nice Guy owes us anything anyway, if he has to take the season off so be it.

James’s Gate hasn’t arrived back yet [from pre-training] and I think the word isn’t good about him I think he might miss the season too. .

Redemption Day got injured after Punchestown last year he didn’t come back sound after it. He ran his heart out and unfortunately picked up a tendon injury.

French Asseel has been retired.
