A WEXFORD family is seeking information about a thoroughbred yearling filly who they believe was stolen from their land earlier this month.

Michael and Julie Finn from Ballybrennan in Bree reported the bay filly missing two weeks ago and local Gardaí have been unable to track her down.

The filly is by local stallion Dee Ex Bee and is described as “a particularly good-looking filly”.

Julie Finn reported: “There’s been no sign of her. There was a fair on in Borris at the time, so maybe she changed hands there. Another theory is that she was taken to Britain via the north.”

The yearling was sharing a field, well away from the road, with two older hunters who were not disturbed. There was no evidence that the yearling, who is microchipped, could have escaped herself.

“We’ve heard of another case where a horse was taken from a field in Cork recently but this kind of thing doesn’t happen around here,” Finn said. Even more upsetting for the Finns was the disappearance of their four-year-old springer spaniel Bridie on the same weekend. She is also presumed stolen.
