RECENT winner Crying Lightning topped the ThoroughBid February Sale at £36,000. The Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained mare was offered as a wildcard by the trainer’s son Willy after making a winning hurdle debut at Hereford on Sunday.

The five-year-old daughter of Shirocco was one of seven lots sold to Narciso Morales for a total of £68,000. Morales had previously bought six lots for a total of £38,300 via the ThoroughBid Christmas Sale.

Ownership syndicate Apollo Horses signed for the second most expensive lot of the sale, Michael Wigham’s 72-rated sprinter Last Outlaw, at £16,000. It was the four-year-old’s second online sale, having been sold unraced to Stephen Bean for 1,000 via the 2023 Tattersalls Online October Sale.

A bid of £14,000 from agent Jerry McGrath secured Gordon Elliott’s offering Paul Collins, who had placed twice over hurdles and twice between the flags.

Twenty two of the 38 lots offered found a buyer, returning an average price of £6,436.36 and a median price of £3,500.
