Stretching from seven furlongs to a mile and a half proved a step too far for Cornahilt Soldier last time at Fairyhouse, but she could be a different proposition coming back down in distance and reverting to a track that really plays to her strengths. Her three appearances at this venue have resulted in two seconds and a win, the final of those runs coming when bolting up by six lengths here two starts ago. She’s well drawn in stall three.

Presence and Model Approach are unexposed types stepping into handicaps for the first time and could be capable of improvement. Northern Sonas isn’t out of it either.

A wide draw over a mile and a half made life tough at Leopardstown last time for Jawhary, and his connections will be much happier to see him drawn in stall two this time over shorter. If forgiving his latest effort, the Ado McGuinness-trained selection, whose sole win came on good to firm ground, would be a big player on what he showed previously at Navan when second over 10 furlongs.

Not Just Any Eagle comes here in fine form and is operating at his optimum trip. Robyn Donaghue-Leahy’s 10lb claim is a big help when considering he shoulders top weight. Explorers Way showed up well last time at Navan and is shortlist material.

Lady Doris receives weight from all rivals and is a likeable three-year-old filly with a willing attitude. She went down fighting when possibly getting briefly lonely in front over a mile and a half last time, and the drop back to an extended 10 furlongs is no concern. She’s now 3lb higher than when a close second last time but could be better than her mark of 81.

Hasna lacks experience, having won a maiden on her second appearance last time at Navan, but looks a promising filly for Dermot Weld. She’s a proven stayer over the trip too. Mo Ghille Mar is battle-hardened and should be bang there too.

SELECTION: LADY DORIS

Ocean Of Dreams fell into the ‘could be anything’ category last season when winning a Leopardstown maiden impressively last autumn, and it was slightly disappointing that he couldn’t make up into a classic contender in the opening months of the campaign. However, there was a step in the right direction from the Aidan O’Brien-trained colt when fourth in the valuable Irish Stallion Farms EBF Gowran Classic last time and it was a big improvement from when bombing out on bottomless ground in the Ballysax Stakes. He now switches to handicap company for the first time off a mark of 90, and has cheekpieces added too. He needs to progress from last time but it would be disappointing if he couldn’t make his presence felt off this rating.

This is a competitive feature race, however, and there are plenty of capable rivals in the mix. Glor Tire has been climbing the handicap and is bound to deliver another bold bid from a favourable draw. Psalm has yet to win but is dangerous on his handicap debut, while Harbour Gem disappointed last time but that race did not unfold to suit and she now returns in cheekpieces.

Matthew Smith has been among the winners lately and despite the fact Bigz Belief hasn’t been setting the world alight over hurdles, he could be worth an each-way look back on the flat off a likely attractive mark of 49. Running off 104 over hurdles last time, and rated 125 at his peak in November 2022, his sole flat success came on good ground so he will be comfortable in these conditions. The trip looks fine too.

Charlie Luciano is only 4lb higher than when winning at Fairyhouse last time and should be on the premises again. Numida and El C Wells have bigger hikes to overcome for recent successes but do arrive here in fine form.

SELECTION: BIGZ BELIEF

There was considerable improvement from Yes Ou Si when stepping up to a mile and a half last time at the Curragh, finishing third behind a pair of Ballydoyle-trained fillies, and she looks to have a decent opportunity to get off the mark here if able to take another step in the right direction.

It does not look an overly deep race and her greater experience than main rival Lily Heart might just swing the argument in her favour. That recent Curragh runner-up will probably appreciate going up to this distance from the 10 furlongs she faced last time.

SELECTION: YES OUI SI

Next best: Lily Heart

Magical Zoe should be very tough to beat in an open-looking maiden. A classy hurdler, she showed a high degree of promise when fifth on her flat debut in the Listed Noblesse Stakes at Cork seven weeks ago. A reproduction of anything like that performance ought to be good enough to see her get off the mark.

Stariam has been knocking on the door in similar events and has a positive draw for a front runner in stall one. Telecon, a 131-rated hurdler, makes his first start on the level and might well give the selection most to think about.
