DAVID O’Connor and his father Barry’s Dutch-bred gelding Kainville VDS dominated Sunday afternoon’s APM-sponsored 1.20m at Broadmeadows Equestrian Centre, taking the top-spot with a decisive win in a time of 25.90, almost two seconds ahead of closest rival and runner-up Paul Carberry.
In another small class with just 21 lining out, Carberry was second in 27.41 seconds with his own eight-year-old gelding Calcord (Calido 1 - Acord II), bred by Susanne Steffens.
Young rider John Murray and another eight-year-old, Liz Murray’s Bakhara Cruise (Rehy High Society x Cruising), were third in 28.49, while fourth was Patrick Byrne riding Ballyvorney Storm Boy (Flex A Bill x Clover Hill), owned by Anne Kavanagh.
Maria Byrne was fifth with her brother Patrick’s BGS Willpower (Power Blade x Lux Z) and Lee Grifferty took sixth with Supreme Intent (Orestus x Coille Mor Hill).
The ACE Plumbing and Heating 1.10m on Sunday morning was won by amateur rider Kevin O’Reilly and his Dutch-bred gelding Furore S. They stopped the clock at 26.24.
Junior rider Aoibheann Power finished in second when she and Michael Hayden’s eight-year-old CSF Alfie (Flipper D’Elle x Lancer III) recorded a time of 27.02.
Kelda Morgan and the seven-year-old Kannan mare Riverfield Kannafanta were third in 30.16, while Broadmeadows’ own Brian Duff was fourth on the six-year-old BEC Red Arrow (Cinsey x Luidam) in 33.37.
Paul Curtis and his own RBF Di Nozzo slotted into fifth and Abi Mar riding Lady Giorgio were sixth.
