EUROPE’S first in-person sale of 2025 takes place on Tuesday, in the form of the Goffs UK January Sale, where selling will get underway at 10am. Broodmares, horses in training and weanlings feature in the diverse catalogue, which has been boosted by the addition of seven supplementary lots.

They include Nicky Henderson’s progressive seven-year-old Peaky Boy, who has run exclusively at Cheltenham for the master of Seven Barrows. Successful on both his starts over hurdles last season, and returned to justify favouritism on chase debut, in a race previously won by the likes of Protektorat, Finaian’s Oscar and O O Seven.

The Kayf Tara gelding finished third next time out on his first start over three miles since winning a four-year-old maiden for Denis Murphy, a performance that saw him sell for £240,000.

Also supplemented is an intriguing entry from France. Nicolas Paysan offers Kelijoe, who was last seen winning a bumper at Lignieres. The Konig Turf gelding previously placed behind Kernie d’Airy, who was subsequently sold at the Goffs Coral Gold Cup Sale for £155,000.

Nine horses will be consigned by Paul and Ellmarie Holden’s Coolmeen Farms, and Eternal Angel benefits from an update. Nicky Henderson’s charge finished second on Thursday, having placed on all of his previous starts, including when narrowly denied in an Ascot bumper.

Something for everyone

The catalogue also features a number of smart breeding prospects, led by Anthony Honeyball’s dual listed winner Coquelicot, who is a half-sister to Tony Martin’s Melbourne Cup runner-up, Heartbreak City.

Baroda Stud have seven broodmares catalogued, three of them in foal to Golden Horn, including the listed winner and Grade 2 performer Misty Whisky.

Grade 1 performer The Glacing Queen topped the 2023 renewal at £150,000, but weanlings accounted for the six highest prices at last year’s sale. Colts from Jackie Chugg’s Little Lodge Farm shared top-lot honours at £68,000, the Vadamos and Walk In The Park colts knocked down to Irish pinhookers Brook Lodge Farm and Rathmore Stud. The Vadamos colt was out of dual listed winner Banjaxed Girl, whose Nathaniel colt features as Lot 87 next week. The May-born bay is a half-brother to Coral Gold Cup victor Le Milos and Grade 2 hurdler Kid Commando.

The farm’s other Nathaniel colt (Lot 132) boasts a similarly attractive page, as a half-brother to Grade 2 winner and Grade 1 performer Guard Your Dreams.

The catalogue also features weanlings by the likes of Blue Bresil, Golden Horn, Jeu St Eloi, Kapgarde and Maxios. Those sourced here include last season’s dual listed winner Harvard Guy and listed scorer Lucky Zebo, bought as weanlings for £8,000 and £3,800 respectively.
